Mets adjust today’s schedule, but still worked outside in the rain

It poured for most of the day at Tradition Field, so the Mets had to adjust their schedule in order for pitchers to get in their necessary conditioning and throwing.

The pitchers that were scheduled to throw bullpen sessions threw in the covered bullpen. In all the years I’ve been coming to Spring Training, I’ve never seen the team use this part of the facility…

The players also stretched in the covered bullpen, which made for a tight work space for them as well as the coaches…

After the stretching, Terry Collins ordered pitchers who were not scheduled to work in the bullpen out to the field, in the heavy rain…

Several Mets pitchers threw outside in the rain, including Zack Wheeler, Shaun MarcumJohan Santana, and Jon Niese.

While Santana was throwing, Terry Collins walked up to him and, in good fun, yelled out to the pitchers, “Guys, let’s hurry this thing along so I can get my $25 million pitcher dry!”

All-in-all, today was a total washout, but I got to see camp from a different angle. While I hope tomorrow is a better day weather-wise, I found it unique being able to watch Terry, the coaches, and pitchers and catchers get everything they needed to get done, given the very poor conditions…
