Erice Young sprints to first

Mets activate Eric Young, Jr. from DL, option Andrew Brown to Las Vegas

The Mets announced prior to Monday’s game that Eric Young, Jr. has been activated from the 15-day disabled list.

Young is in the lineup Monday night, hitting ninth.

With Young ninth and pitcher Jacob deGrom hitting eighth, it marks the first time in Mets history the pitcher has ever started a game in the eighth spot in the lineup.

To make room for Young on the roster, the Mets optioned OF Andrew Brown to Triple-A Las Vegas.

In 44 at-bats during two separate stints with the Mets this season, Brown was hitting .182 with a .245 OBP, two home runs and seven RBI.

Young was placed on the disabled list on May 25 with a strained right hamstring, and had recently completed a minor league rehab assignment that was split between High-A St. Lucie and Double-A Binghamton.

In four rehab games, Young went 1-for-10 with three walks and four runs scored.

Seems like maybe David Wright is finally breaking out of his slump!

They need to make a decision on Chris Young. He looks totally lost up there.

i see some people  give guys  the benefit of the doubt..But most of these guys on the Mets  flat out suck.

Yes, plug this young in and send the other young packing.

EY Jr had 1 homer and 7 RBIs in 165 Plate appearances

Brown had 2 homers and 7 RBIs in 49 plate appearances.

Will NEVER understand the Mets thinking or their lack of giving players a fair shot.

Shouldn't Travis D' Arnaud be up here and part of tonight's lineup? Instead of Mr Garden?!

Regardless he is the BETTER catcher by far of the two. Travis is Piazza jr on the low transitioning into the kind of star player he is going to be. He is smaller than Piazza but he makes up for it with his better arm, better running speed where he can steal bases- and if you've watched when he connects, he is strong with a powerful wip of a swing and the guy doesn't even use all the power from his legs and he tomahawks the ball right at the very end with the ball deep in the zone--

Watch him when he comes up. And remember Piazza. See if you notice the similarities in their approaches at the plate and their batting stance. I think, it's a matter of time, the Mets will pick up on that and mention it over the media.

He's going to be 1 of the best catchers they've had on that team.

Believe it. Once he calms down and relaxes into the game when he's at the plate/ he's going to start connecting-

I still think the Mets have gone through some sort of mental delusions-

I believe they are just flirting around with having one of the most potent and most dangerous lineups on both sides of the league. And yet I still believe that any moment now, the right lineup will finally come together and click from front to back-

Terry Collins has a lot of fire for that team before, during , and after the games-

David Wright....

This guy alone. If he finds his old form, "he's not far away from finding it"- he will be great.

With Wright at his best/

Curtis at his best/

Murp at his best/

C. Young at his best/

Flores at his best/ AT THE PLATE

Arnaud at his best/

Lagares at his best/

Duda at his best/

Tejada at his best/

Young jr at his best with what he

has the potential todo/

Dekker could become a GREAT

player if he just finds his timing

& contact and his hot spots-

The mets are just flirting with having like the best team in baseball--cause the pitching is clearly NOT the problem and you're talking about names "like the ones written down up there"- that you just know, if you know,,, that you can't hold

guys like these back for too long before

they explode as the hitting powerful line driving hitting platoon they have the chance to be. They have monster power and line drive power with speed, the potential to have one of the greatest gloves in baseball history playing together

along with the best arms which are now blooming--

If Flores truly matures, he has the type of HOMERUN & RBI power to make Met fans forget Reyes "finally" if he can make the plays at short and defend that spot.

If he doesn't then that's the only missing link, unless Tejada becomes a single, and double hitting machine spraying the balls all over the field. But honestly? If Flores doesn't pan out to do what I think he can do with that bat- they have to buy or trade for a shortstop that can fill the missing cleats of Mr. Reyes, cause they let a diamond "who was a phenom player with the bat and glove- not to mention his range, legs n feet, and the laser he had coming out that right arm to throw out the fastest guys in the sport.

Once they fill those cleats at short- and at the lead off spot- and once D'Arnaud turns it on behind those middle guys in the heart of the lineup- the line up will have the type of protection they haven't had in a long time. I'm talking the Ricky Henderson days where their lineup was stacked- they just won't be that old. Lol.

I believe in you mets.

And WHEELER-- listen. The guy needs a new weight and fitness and body/skeleton biologic scientifical health trainer. Wheeler needs to start adding muscles to his legs and do yoga, so he can get strong in his equilibrium and balance along with how he moves at all times through his delivery. Or maybe- he's headed that way now just slowly/ like D'Arnaud. And he can be GREAT- along with SynderHarveyNiese-

Wheeler needs some of Monteros control and Montero needs some of Wheelers arm power to make them both supreme pitchers. :!) and Degrom looks really good-

If they all pitch will-- the Mets will have enough to trade for a super star short stop, 1st basemen, or outfielder in his prime if they really can use it. Mejia is just looking like a fierce lion coming out that pen to close games, his ceiling is yet and still with more room for growth and power.

Black is looking like he can be the great set up man they've lacked for years- with guys like Familia looming around as a closeresque pitcher for the mid-late innings- "guys that will be able to come and shut things down quick and explosive and with the ability to all be long men"-

Let's go Captain-

Be the Wright you can be and be the sledger right at the heart of the lineup-

May the spirit of The Lord Jesus watch after your spirits and teach you guys patience, cause I believe you're gonna need it, to put up with the pitchers beefing at you guys to stop putting up runs so they won't get cold in between innings. Lol--

Let's go. Be amaZing- individually and as an entire team.

Sweep the birds and win 10 in row.

GET TRAVIS D ARNAUD BACK UP HERE ASAP! He doesn't belong hitting home runs back to back for days- out there in Vegas. You guys need that up here.

LETS GOO!!!

They brought EY back so they could bat him 9th, behind the pitcher

PB

I don't really understand how this move makes sense...EY was our leadoff man because he got on base early and can steals bases...why doesn't anyone remember that the games he was leading off in, were the games we were winning?

We should just trade for Kemp and stop playing around..If the higher ups are serious about winning a title

Well....he's identified the worst hitter in the lineup...and batted him in a spot where he gets the fewest abs.  Heck...DeGrom probably is a better hitter then him.

So if you go on mets.com click on today's game and go to lineups, it says deGrom is batting .224 in 134 at bats with 5 home runs but zero RBIs...amazing

You would think that with all the garbage that is posted on this blog you could of taken a moment away from writing a story about voting for your mets thrill of the game to maybe pay tribute to one of the greatest hitters of our generation passing today. This blog used to be halfway decent. Now it's just filled with pointless stories and silly votes on whether the mets are doing something right. Oh but make sure we have a story about josh friggen thole feeling badly for David wright. What a joke.

Definitely would like to see more of E. Young and less of C. Young in the starting lineup.

Jason Martinez
Jason Martinez

Young is better than Brown. He's a switch hitter and he steals bases-

He brings more energy to the team and they need that.

@mr.tonyf They received pitcher Blake Taylor from the Pirates

@PB I guess their thinking is after the first time through the line-up we more or less have 2 lead-off hitters in a row.

@sandybgone @Tormented Mets Fan This is my favorite lineup of the year so far.  Only lineup I could imagine liking more is the Cardinal's, if Chris Young was in it.

@Joseph Tirino seriously, I miss the old days when this was a baseball blog about the NY Mets, now it's a fan-zone for cerrone to pretend everything is ok because his bosses tell him it is

Steve Finelli

@mike23 Really?  It doesn't matter.  This guy goes 1 for 10 in a  rehab assignment and wasn't even at AAA.  When Lagares comes back put denDekker in left field and give him regular at bats

kingman76
kingman76

@Jason Martinez I agree he brings more energy - but too many times these other players are set up to fail by just rotting on the bench.  Give them a fair shot and then if they fail and I'll be on board 100%.

BringBackDaveTelghe
BringBackDaveTelghe

He's as bad as anyone in this lineup when you expand it past 2 and a half months of data.

BringBackDaveTelghe
BringBackDaveTelghe

Why? Den Dekker is a terrible hitting AAAA player with literally no upside..

mike23
mike23

@Steve Finelli @mike23 I have no issue putting DenDekker in LF when Lagares comes back, I was just saying out of the Young options, i'd go with EY at this point due to Chris Young's struggles.
