Mets acquire Chin-lung Hu
The Mets have acquired SS Chin-lung Hu from the Dodgers for LHP Michael Antonini.
I know what you’re thinking it, because I’m thinking it too: Hu? I mean, who?
The 26-year-old Hu hit .317 with four home runs and 25 RBI in 206 at bats in Triple last season. In 173 career big-league at bats, he’s batting .191 with two home runs and 17 RBI.
Antonini, 25, went 6-9 with a 4.32 ERA in 23 games, all starts, in Double-A for the Mets last year, then went 2-3 with a 5.11 ERA in six starts for Triple-A Buffalo.
There was talk after the 2009 season that Antonini would compete for a spot in the big-league bullpen on last year’s team, but that never panned out. He was left exposed during the Rule 5 Draft a few weeks ago but no team selected him.
According to the team’s press release, their 40-man roster now stands at 39.

The early word on Hu is that he has a ‘very good glove,’ and he’s more than capable of playing second base as well. Also, he’s quick, not just in the field, but also on the bases. However, though he’s a small guy, and has yet to prove he can be an every-day player on a big-league roster, he’s strong and might prove valuable in a utility role, especially providing some nice speed off the bench.
