Media Reactions to deal that will send R.A. Dickey to Blue Jays

Here are some reactions to R.A. Dickey soon being sent to the Blue Jays for top C prospect Travis D’Arnaud:

CO00512:21 pm: Former GM Jim Bowden: “Sandy Alderson and the New York Mets have received the absolute MAXIMUM possible return for R.A. Dickey #impressive.”

12:12 pm: Toby Hyde, Mets Minor League Blog: “If a team is going to trade a reigning Cy Young award winner, this is how it’s done. Pull the other team’s best two prospects.”

11:17 am: Buster Olney, “Talent evaluators who have heard Toronto Blue Jays GM Alex Anthopoulos say no to possible deals for d’Arnaud in the past are stunned — completely shocked — that Toronto has said yes to a to a proposed trade for Dickey. There’s even more to this deal than d’Arnaud: Noah Snydergaard, regarded as the Jays’ best pitching prospect by some teams, would be the cherry on top of this trade for the Mets, if it goes through. … “He’s out of his mind,” said another.

11:00 am: Tyler Kepner, New York Times: “By trading Dickey to the Toronto Blue Jays, pending the negotiation of a contract extension, the Mets essentially told their fans that they do not expect to contend for the next three years. The Mets have already staggered through four consecutive losing seasons, three shy of the franchise record. Now the wait to be relevant drags on.”
