Matt Harvey throws 29 pitches on Saturday

Matt Harvey threw 29 pitches off the slope of the mound Saturday morning in Port St. Lucie as he continues his rehab from Tommy John surgery.

He threw from a mound for the first time last Friday at Citi Field, then again on Tuesday in Port St. Lucie:

Harvey told reporters earlier this week that he was surprised he felt as good as he did after his second sessions, and his desire to pitch in a game during 2014 has not changed (Santucci, Aug. 5).

Mets GM Sandy Alderson has repeatedly said Harvey is not likely to pitch in the big leagues this season. However, it’s possible he could pitch briefly in the fall instructional league, which spans late September and early October in Florida (ESPN, July 30).

That what it's designed to do. The WILPONZIs and the MUTTS FAILED again, so now they have begin the SUCKER game. Parade Harvey around, put on the OMAR the Liar spin, so losers will give the worst organization in baseball more money to fail.

Uh oh..here we go, 500 comments and a 100 articles about Harvey returning sooner than expected.

Right now, Harvey is more of a distraction than anything else. We all look forward to his gradual return to form in 2015. Even in 2015 he may need to take baby steps to get back to what he's capable of. For now, let's concentrate on how Gee, Niese and Wheeler are throwing.

Looks like Harvey has some giddyup in his pitches! Good!

In light of Hefner's setback - can we just stop with the daily Harvey updates and check back in with him in Spring Training.

These daily reports are beginning to get annoying.

I hope the situation with Hefner has a little affect  on Harvey not wanting to rush back because he misses the spotlight. Harvey has to realize that he has his whole career ahead of him and what he does now could  have good or bad outcomes.

Harvey needs to approach his pitching with some caution. Next season(2015) will arrive fast enough. I know all of us are looking forward to seeing him back on the mound. I hope Sandy will finally upgrade our offensive weak spots to complement our stellar pitching staff. Next season is our turn to be at the top of the NLEast. . . Lets Go Mets!

I'm glad Matt Harvey is making slow and steady progress back from surgery and I look forward to his full and complete recovery.  But do we really need the constant updates of everything Harvey does on SNY?  "Matt Harvey used six squares of toilet paper to wipe his ass this morning..."  It all sets you up for a big disappointment if, god forbid, he should have any kind of a setback ala Hefner.  History shows it takes about a year and a half to rebuild arm strength following TJ surgery.  Who knows if he will have the same feel and control when he is ready to let loose again.  It all takes time.  Lets give it to him.

I really like the DFA of C.Y.

As preparations A-G didn't work, releasing him under preparation H, really feels good,...on the whole.

This just makes me so excited for next year. If the Mets can pick up another bat in the off season and with Harvey healthy, they will take this division next year. The could have the best pitching staff in the MLB next year.

David Wright needs to start swinging the bat better

He shouldn't be surprised, he should feel relieved and grateful.  If he didn't feel good, THAT would be news worthy.  Now don't rush it and be ready for February.

We already see what's happening to Hefner. Harvey needs not to pitch nor warm ups until December.

2015 should be an interesting season if they actually go out and get 2 legit bats to play in LF and SS and improve on being 29th in the league in slugging %.

@mesmo Here's a suggestion. If you don't want to read a Harvey update, scroll right past it - the computer is a wonderful thing. And for someone who doesn't want to read about Harvey's progress you certainly seem quite interested in the whole process.

stemog

@mesmo We do need updates. Did you see Hefner has to get his forearm checked out after pitching in a game? That's why they provide the updates.

Anthony Gaetano DeCesare

It has nothing to do with Harvey himself to be honest....its the amount of media publicity Harvey gets for a guy to be honest....has not done a whole lot except go to an all-star game and date a super model. Wow!!!! He's more interesting then David Wright is I'll say that much.

@nncyel @mesmo seriously.... you would think the progress of our ace would be notable enough to report on. complainers gonna complain...

Steve Finelli

@stemog @mesmo U need the updates when he truly starts the clock on his rehab assignment.  That won't come til next year.  We don't need to be updated every time he throws the ball.  Hope he is looking at Hefner he's been shut down because of forearm pain.  He's only 12 mos removed from his surgery.  Forearm pain is the major symptom of elbow ligament damage.  Hefner will never pitch for the Mets again.  Quite frankly he pushed his rehab because he knows this and is trying to get a contract for next year as he is only on a minor league deal w the Mets for this year.

@Anthony Gaetano DeCesare  I hope there are no reasons to have Harvey showing up on the same pages as any of the Kardahshians.  That could get ugly.  LOL
