Matt Harvey vs. Twitter troll

Matt Harvey recently embarked on a trip with super-model girlfriend Anne Vyalitsyna, traveling from Cambodia to Thailand, during which he’s occasionally posting pictures to Instagram and gave updates on Twitter.

He checked Twitter today and was welcomed to the following tweets from a Yankees fan, clearly irritated by his behavior, and had this exchange…

its actually funny to me watching these pitchers come up for the mets..cause the yankee fans hate them all and wanna watch them all fail..i'd take the mets top 4 over anyone the yankees troll out there at this point....they have no rotation, oh, and no 2b or 3b, and 97 outfielders...just a little jealousy popping up...let him bark...this guys a clown

Shame on Metsblog for giving this loser more publicity than he deserves.

And yes, Matt Harvey has got to get thicker skin.

I think this is all because of the yankee fans anger that they have ZERO young pitching in their minor league pipeline and they constantly have to overpay for pitching and now they want to overpay for an unknown commodity in Tanaka. While the Mets have young pitching up the wazoo and potentially have 3 young stud pitchers for years to come making no money. This is gotta be killing these fans and they want to take their frustrations out on Harvey who they bash but if he was on their team they would say he's the second coming of Kofax.

If I can be crass, guy must have a hard-on to get this much attention from Matt freaking Harvey.  Some banter is fine and all, but at some point, feeding the trolls gets old.

I didnt even know what this was about till I heard joe and Evan talking about it on the radio. Who cares if Harvey likes to travel. Some loser has to make a big deal about it and unfortunately harvey responded. I just see all types of stupid in this whole situation. Fighting on the internet is like the special Olympics, doesn't matter who wins you're all still retarded...

I really just don't have any problem with this.  I love when players respond to fans on twitter and tell them they are idiots.  This idea that the fans are untouchable has always been ridiculous to me.  If the fans have an outlet to the players, then the players can and should respond.

Seriously? Harvey needs to ignore the morons...

The irony here? I bet our boy Nick would will be screaming "Sign him" If Harvey is ever a free agent.

This is a top notch argument, with good and ridiculous points on both sides.

I'm just happy to see Harvey go out of his way to trash the Yankees, especially since he grew up rooting for them. I've been horrified that he would sign with them down the road, but it's clear he sees them as the enemy like all us fans do.

If Matt is wasting his time on twitter, while he's on vacation with his super model gf, it means it's time for a new super model girl friend.

Matt Harvey needs to stop and just focus on being a pitcher for the New York Mets. You shut people up about your lifestyle by going out and winning baseball games. I let Yankee fans get to me all the time and I hate them all, but I am a fan. Matt Harvey is a professional baseball player who needs to focus on being just that, a professional.

I have to admit I feel a lot of glory came too quickly to matt harvey. I think if he was healthy none of this stuff would bother me. I would never begrudge him any of the spoils of his labor. The fact that he couldnt complete last season and is out this year just makes me wish that he would go away (anywhere he likes) get better and just get back to the limelight in 2015.

harvey was phenomenal last year but he hasnt pitched a complete season in baseball. who knows where his numbers would have gone during the rest of the second half of the year. Maybe he would have continued to be dominant, maybe hte league would have caught up a little. Harevey was awesome but he still hasnt given a whole season to us and he is sitting in the first row at knick games withhis super model girlfriend (who is probably more famous and probably was the reason he was in the first row).

as far as twitter - matt was probably better of jus tletting this fool go. A guy in the offseason can go whereever he wants to go as long as he is doing his work. What i do like is tha matt has a lot of fire. That makes me believe 100% that he will come back and become the pitcher he believes he is supposed to be.

The fact that ANYONE could be against Harvey for going on VACATION is so ridiculous Metsblog is only adding to the problem by posting about it.

I'm not surprised at all that an arrogant, classless Yankme fan would do that. Good for Harvey for sticking up for himself and doing it in a classy way. Let's go Mets!

Someone needs to talk to Harvey about stuff like this.  He sounds like a child responding to this guy.  Get off twitter if you can't manage it properly.  Next by Hrvey: "I'm rubber your glue…"

They actually hate Mets pitchers so much they sign them... Case in point Feliciano, Cone, Gooden

@Darren Snow Are you saying that in some way that's Harvey's fault? The guy was on his way to winning the Cy Young last year before he got hurt. He easily could have had 6 or 7 more wins if his offense had scored for him.

@Anthony SchifanoGet real. It is the offseason. He can do whatever he wants. I'm sure at this point in the rehab he is not supposed to be doing anything anyway. You will find out when he tweets about it. Twitter is not only about work related stuff for athletes.. If you don't like the personal stuff, then you shouldn't be going on twitter!

@bigdirty Why is it Matt Harvey's problem that cameras and freak fans are obsessed with where he sits at a Knicks game?

You do also realize, his 2013 season ended in the third week of august when he had probably all of six starts left, because of a SERIOUS career hampering injury?

The guy is supposed to become a hermit because he needs Tommy John surgery?  It is not as if he was smoking crack in a shack and then crashed his car ending his season.

@7up17togo  Matt's first comment:

"Nothing better than blasting music, relaxing overlooking the most amazing blue water by yourself in Thailand. Happiness"

Some nimrod Yankees' fan's response: "You have what? NINETEEN career wins? Why on Earth do you think you can act like you're in the Hall of Fame?"

And in this scenario, you think it's Matt who should shut up?

@hashburry His only mistake was engaging with this fool, agreed.  Posting beautiful photos from his trip should be fine by any perspective.

muskytoes

@hashburry Something's a bit off with him. Not sure what. Missing a commonsense gene, or maybe just small town kid in a big city naive. He should be spending the winter rehabbing and doing manual labor, picking grapes on the Seaver Vineyard & picking up life and baseball lessons.

flushed

Yes, it is Matt who should shut up...if you're alone on a beautiful beach with a gorgeous supermodel and you would rather brag on the web/fight with trolls than say, I don't know, maybe doing something else with said supermodel, I have to question your priorities, or your desperate need for validation.

cmetsfan

@hashburry I think you might be right, in that I get a bit of a newspapers dropcloth and huey lewis and the news vibe from him...but he should be alright if mentored properly and saved from himself as much as possible. Maybe a glad he's on our side so far kind of crazy thing...

Who cares what he does that isn't on the mound? Matt Harvey on vacation is only interesting if you have no life of your own. Why are people so obsessed with celebrities in our culture...if the twitter posts are about things outside of their field of expertise, they are just strangers with normal lives and keeping tabs on that is just creepy on the part of the followers and presumptuous on the part of the celeb.

@7up17togo@sell Because everyone else on Twitter does, that's the only purpose for its existence.  If you don't want to know what a person had for lunch or other such useless trivia, don't follow them, or don't use the service.  Don't BIATTCH about people using the service as intended, no matter how shallow that may be...

@7up17togo @sell Oh, I'm sorry.  He must be the only athlete with a hot girlfriend who uses Twitter.  My mistake

I agree that Twitter is absurd, at times.  But he has every right to post photos of his experiences.  Clearly lots of fans like to see them.

Bottom line:  who cares about any of this?  I just hate to see Harvey get negative press for.... going on vacation?

metstastic

@7up17togo@sellObviously you don't know what twitter is. You are supposed to keep updates on your life. That was the original intent. Only recently has it been so commercialized.

sean

@7up17togo @sell  I think most of what appears on Twitter is ridiculous but whatever, it's not like he's the only guy telling "everything he is doing".  For God's sake, all he said "gee, I'm having a nice vacation" in so many words.  Any rational person says "that's nice, good for you" and moves on.  Using it as an excuse to bash the guy or oh I don't know interpreting what was meant to be just "gee, I'm having a nice vacation" as "My life is so much better than yours" or using it as a reason to "question your priorities, or your desperate need for validation" is in my view neurotic overanalyzing at best, mean-spirited and hateful at worst.

sell

@7up17togo Oh for the love of God.  Stop inferring nonsense from his tweets.  He is on vacation! What's he supposed to do?  Cry on Twitter about getting hurt?  Or try to enjoy himself?
