Matt Harvey will likely seek a second opinion on his ulnar collateral ligament in his elbow, probably from Dr. James Andrews, GM Sandy Alderson told WFAN on Tuesday.
In the next week or two weeks, a decision will be made as to whether Harvey will need surgery. A decision will ultimately be made by the end of September.
Depending on the severity of the tear, the choice is up to Harvey, because, “It’s his body and he decides what’s in his best interest,” Alderson said.
“If he doesn’t have it, it becomes a sort of ongoing proposition, because at any point in his rehab there could be a set back, and that would be all the way up until he starts throwing completely in spring training,” the GM said.
