Matt Harvey is in camp with the Mets and ready to continue his rehabilitation process coming off Tommy John surgery.
He said that arriving at the Port St. Lucie facility was hard because he knew this year was going to be different than the last. He knows he will have to focus on rehab and taking it slow.
“I’ve come to the realization I have to listen to them and can’t push too much,” he said.
Harvey recently told WFAN’s Mike Francesa that he has been cleared to begin his weightlifting regimen as normal and he expects to begin throwing again soon (MetsBlog, Feb. 7).
He said he hopes to spend all of spring training – and the season – with the team.
“I would love to. I don’t know what the plan is yet… If I’m there and I can be with the guys and learn the hitters, it’s won’t be like I missed a whole year,” he said on WFAN. “You can watch the game and study it that way, but it doesn’t compare to being in the dugout with the pitcher and the pitching coach. You can’t get that from the TV. If I can be there and study all the hitters, that will be big for me when I come back.”
