Matt Harvey aiming to throw off a mound in June

Matt Harvey said he expects to head to Port St. Lucie and begin throwing off a mound at some time in June, he told media at the MLB FanCave on Thursday in New York City.

The Mets preferred Harvey do his entire rehab in Port St. Lucie. The team and Harvey eventually agreed to let him spend homestands with the team in New York and work in Florida when the Mets are on the road.

“I can see the light at the end of the tunnel,” he said.

If Harvey is back next year...Niese..Wheeler..Gee.. Colon...Montero Harvey deGrom... 7 starters?....and remember that's not counting Noah Syndergaard...Im sure no one is going all out to trade for Colon... so what starter should be traded and who should he be traded for?

Why would he throw off a mound?  That's how he hurt himself in the first place.

If Harvey ever left the Mets for the Yanks once he was a free agent, I would probably never forgive the Mets... (I wasn't alive for the whole Tom Seaver thing)

Niese and Murph for a package centered around Profar. Thank you.

Harvey make act and pitch like a veteran when he is within the blue and orange Uni, But hes young!! hes a young man whos practically on top of the world in his eyes pitching for NY. I have absolutely no problem with Harvey being with the mets watching the other teams picking up notes and studying the league so when he comes back this or next year he isn't completely lost. Yes he goes out and has a life but baseball comes first and if you don't believe that GAME 7 for the rangers who he is a HUGEEE fan of he wasn't at the game he was with his team in the dugout studying the players. At 25 years old you cant expect him to rehab for half the day and then just go home to sleep for the next day, hes young and in charge. Mets need to stretch the leash on him a bit because hes smart enough not to get in trouble, case and point the bar scene the other night, he excused himself from conflict, as long as hes not making an ass out of himself hes alright in my book. HARVEY ALLDAY!

he should go to PSL where he belongs

Looking forward to having Harvey pitch for the Mets THIS YEAR. Stay out of trouble. Do your work and get back to pitching for the Mets even though you may lose a bunch of 1-0  2-1 games.

I got a feeling once he's a FA he's going to say f#uck you to the Wilpons and head to the Bronx.

@Chris Can we wait for the guy to throw a pitch off the mound before going all doomsday about his future?

Ricky Gurbal

@D the way the ball travels in las vegas its not hard to score runs plus we have a plethora of young prospects on the cusp of getting to majors, in that last week alone we brought up de grom, Montero, centero, and edgin, all players that wally had, What did TC have? kyle Farnsworth! lol talent is a little better at triple A at the moment but come august that will change. Hang in there

@wilpondscm a 25 year old with money, living in NYC, should NOT go to PSL while rehabbing.  This setup keeps him sane.

Or back on the DL by July.

@Ricky Gurbal @D  you kinda made my next point for me... last year Wally lost some his best players to the Major League team, yet still finished 81-63, 2nd best record overall in the PCL, and in the Championship Finals.

This year, he has already lost some of his best performers (Abreu was batting like .400, Flores, Campbell, now Montero and deGromm),  yet his team has kept winning (4 in a row) and is now 29-11 for a .725 Win%

Next best team win% in the whole league is .568

The point is.... Wally keeps his team focused on WINNING regardless of the constant shuffle of players. Terry keeps his team LOSING regardless of the infusion of Young Talent.

@vince1234 Niese will make $7 million next year and $9 the year after. Mets need to deal for one hitter and sign a free agent this winter for the other.

vince1234
vince1234

@Robby Johnson @vince1234 Texas needs pitching so that's why i said Niese.. hes making 5 mil will be making ten next year.Murph makes 5 I think and will get a raise next year. If were going to be a small market team he's the one to go in a deal.  Unfort niese wouldn't be enough for Profar and they'd want a replacement for 2nd base since there a win now team. Obviously I'd expect another impact player or two in return. I personally think the production we'd get from a Profar, Flores combo would exceed the tejada murph we have going on right now (we all know flores is not a SS). If we were actually going to compete for a WS this year you dont make this trade. However, would you really mind having the top catching prospect SS prospect and best definsive CF in baseball up the middle?

Robby Johnson
Robby Johnson

@vince1234 @Robby Johnson  Much like JLGA just said - how is it smart to trade a career .292 hitter - one who seems to be getting better every single year - for more unproven talent?

And not only that - you think a team with no offense should trade its best offensive weapon?

jlga
jlga

So you'd trade an established major league hitter in exchange for an unknown and then play another unproven hitter? And you wonder why this team loses every year.

@Ricky Gurbal @D @Robby Johnson  Visiting teams sure find ways to overcome the daunting task of... gasp... WINNING AT CITIFIELD... our team, and manager, bitch and complain about it, and LOSE

Ricky Gurbal
Ricky Gurbal

@D @Robby Johnson @Ricky Gurbal well look at the stadium bro at citi field they cant hit that's not on TC that's on the players they left yankee stadium looking like a offensive juggernaut and come home to putting up goose eggs, Las vegas is well documented for having the ball fly out there.

D
D

@Robby Johnson @Ricky Gurbal @D  ok Bobbie, counter it with some facts and logic to show why Terry remain where he is, and Wally should remain where he is

jlga
jlga

Ummm, Flores was playing and then became ill. So Tejada was back in and played well. We still don't know how Flores is, do we? German was also taken ill and he's on the DL.

As for Lagarres, it was Alderson who promised at bats.. They're not sitting Granderson's contract, Chris Young was promised 500 at bats and the team wins when Eric Young plays. This dilemma is not the managers doing. He didn't sign four outfielders. This is on the GM.

D
D

@Ricky Gurbal @D @jlga  I recognize this fish rots from the head down (The Wilpons), I recognize Sandy has not allocated his limited resources that well, and I recognize this manager has never won a damn thing and never will

Ricky Gurbal
Ricky Gurbal

@D @Ricky Gurbal @jlga coming off a hammy injury he sits for two days and the whole world collapses? its 162 games in a season buddy relax and flores had the stomach flu and when ruby started playing in his absence he started to swing great! you wanna put a questionable hitting prospect in an already abysmal hitting lineup? go ahead lol

jlga
jlga

He plays the. "Talent" he's given. He didn't sign a 40 year old bench player, it scrap heap relievers. He didn't say shortstop was a priority then do nothing. He wasn't the one who decided to keep Montero and deGrom in the minors. That's all on the GM.

Meantime this team with no talent is 18-20. Think about that. Following the opening sweep by Wasington they are above .500. No manager, I don't care who, could do a better job.

D
D

@Ricky Gurbal @D @jlga  speaking of the .300 hitting Gold Glove CF Juan, why is he riding the pine? Why were we told by Terry he is his everyday CF about a week ago, and now he sits?

Why was Flores supposed to get an extended look at SS just to sit for a week?

Yeah, Terry Rools Dood

D
D

@Ricky Gurbal @D @jlga  I sure do, and its based on over 3 years of talking out of both sides of his mouth, not getting the most of out what he does have, his track record of losing everywhere he has been, his misuse of the bullpen, and favoritism towards veterans over young guys which he should be trying to develop for the future. Forgive me for my opinion of not being a Terry Fan

Ricky Gurbal
Ricky Gurbal

@D @Ricky Gurbal @jlga you just have a personal dislike for TC, your acting like he manages each game into the ground, he puts people in the right position to succeed its on the players at that point to perform and more often then not they haven't performed, that's why they are where they are, They HAVE NO OFFENSE literally murph wright and juan are the only ones near 300 everyone else is scuffling around 200 and we have a 500 team. if we had a legit SS and 1st basemen we would be 1st or second in the NL east

jlga
jlga

A .500 team? They haven't been a .500 team in six years. There is NO talent. They're a 75 win team and gave been for awhile.

D
D

@Ricky Gurbal @D @jlga  NO, this is a .500 roster with about a .480 manager... sub out that .480 manager with a .550 and we could win 84 maybe 85 games.

Point is, when this roster IS ready to win 90 and contend, Collins will drag it down to an 85-86 win team, and I am sick of it

jlga
jlga

He has the team at 18-20 and competing. And look at his "talent."

Catcher is a disaster. Duda is hitting .250. Shortstop .200. Left field .220 and right field .180. That's five of his starting eight.

The bullpen was Valverde and Farnsworth and Rice, Getman, Dice-K and Torres. Which of those instills fear in the other guys?

Of his 5 starters Meija couldn't go past5, Gee couldn't get past. 6 and Colon is average at best. That leave Wheeler and Niese. Again, who is striking fear?

And yet they're 18-20. That's admirable. Give the manager credit.

Ricky Gurbal
Ricky Gurbal

@D @Ricky Gurbal @jlga so if lets say larussa took over this team we would instantly be a 90 win team? come on man the talent is lacking here compared to the rest of the league ESPECIALLY the NL east TC doing the best he can until the real prospect come up

D
D

@Ricky Gurbal @D @jlga  oh, Wally WINS... AND he has managed half of the guys on the roster, and the next batch on the way there... and has managed them SUCCESSFULLY

D
D

@Ricky Gurbal @D @jlga  I couldn't tell you why other teams haven't hired him, I do know Arizona did a long time ago...

I also know that the Mets have hired people with ZERO managing experience on ANY level (Willie), and most were OK with that... and the current manager has a track record of LOSING everywhere he has been, yet he is here...

why not try someone who actually WINS?

Ricky Gurbal
Ricky Gurbal

@D @jlga you really think if wally was THAT amazing he wouldn't have other teams clammering to get him? he was unsure to come back prior to the season remember? so why wouldn't teams jump at the opportunity to have him? because winning in the minors and winning in the majors are two different stories

D
D

@jlga  Terry's players have ZERO IDEA what to expect when they head to work... the guy says one thing and does another at an accelerating pace nowadays, its bordering on out of control

D
D

@jlga  are you trying to say that Terry Collins is a more organized, consistent, and WINNING manager than Wally Backman is?

jlga
jlga

His 2014 record was with pitchers we wee calling for all season.

He had Montero, deGrom and Syndegaard. We had Colon and Farnsworth and Valverde and Rice.

Vegas has better talent than the rest if the league while the Mets have much less talent than the major leagues.
