Matsuzaka makes rehab start with St. Lucie

Daisuke Matsuzaka allowed one hit, walked none, and struck out three during three scoreless innings in a rehab start Monday night for High-A St. Lucie.

Mets manager Terry Collins said that Matsuzaka would make one or two more rehab starts after Monday before being activated from the DL (ESPN, August 11).

Matsuzaka was pitching out of the bullpen before being placed on the 15-day disabled list on July 26 due to inflammation in his right elbow.

So far this season, Matsuzaka has posted a 3.87 ERA and 1.33 WHIP in 74 1/3 innings pitched for the Mets.

Good to see him return.

Really like what Dice K brings to the staff. His absolute willingness to do what the team needs is admirable. Never a word of complaint (not that we'd understand it)...

Would like to see him in the 7th or 8th if Mejia is out for a while. He has also been effective in long relief and spot starting.

Mets have a good mix of veteran and young arms this year.

@golsf Dice K has been a warrior for this team. Done whatever they have asked him to do and done well.

Good to read a positive comment about a veteran instead of hammering him for taking away space from a kid. I will never understand people who know so little about baseball venting on this site.
