Matsuzaka in bullpen

Daisuke Matsuzaka will move to the bullpen for Friday night’s second half opener against the Padres.

Matsuzaka is the odd man out of the rotation now that Jon Niese appears set to come off the disabled on Monday and pitch against the Mariners.

Manager Terry Collins told reporters on Friday that he didn’t plan to use Matsuzaka over the weekend, just in case he needed a spot start for Niese on Monday.

Matsuzaka is 3-3 record with a 3.55 ERA in combination bullpen and starter work. He has nine starts this season.

Mets had three re-treads at the end of last year. Dice-K and Torres have both did yeoman work & Harang is doing so for the Braves.  Journeymen have their value, Dice-K, even if you aren't an ace any more. Thanks for providing some to us.

Dice has been invaluable this year.

So actually Dice K did not move to the BP on Fri as the post says since TC said he won't pitch him till Mon just in case Niese can't go and he needs him to start. So he won't officially move to the BP till Mon if Niese comes off the DL

I wonder if he would have any value to a contender looking for BP and SP help. Maybe a package with Murphy would net something nice?

It would be better to keep him in the rotation because he's always been a starter and doesn't deserve to be jerked around any more. Why not go to a six-man rotation? It would take wear and tear off everybody's arms and allow deGrom and Wheeler to keep pitching without worrying about innings limits?

Good I like him there. Who's gone when Niese gets back?

Dice-K has been a delight this season.  I guess Sandy doesn't get any credit for that.

@George Kirchmann  They might eventually do that, but I wouldn't be in favor of it for now.  Let Wheeler and deGrom pitch every 5 days.  Dice K has done a good job as well in the bullpen this year.  He can definitely help to take the burden off of some of the guys out there, like Familia and Torres who have been over used.

They're not down anyone. Dice-K wasn't going to pitch this weekend anyway.
