Matsuzaka heads to DL, Carlyle recalled

The Mets placed pitcher Daisuke Matsuzaka on the DL on Saturday with inflammation in his right elbow. The Mets added reliever Buddy Carlyle back to the roster to take the spot in the bullpen.

Matsuzaka pitched two innings of relief on Thursday against the Brewers and went back to New York on Friday after feeling discomfort in his elbow. An MRI revealed inflammation forcing the DL stint. Matsuzaka was removed from the starting rotation when Jon Niese came off the DL on Monday and inserted into the bullpen. Carlyle was designated for assignment when Niese came off the DL and had accepted an assignment to Triple-A Las Vegas. Matsuzaka is 3-3 with a 3.87 ERA in 28 games and nine starts this season.

Heaven help us.  Matsuzaka was the unsung hero of the pitching staff.  A true pro, and a great teammate.  Hope he comes back soon.

No question in my mind this is the result of being jerked around from SP to long relief to short relief and back again. Dice-K did whatever was asked of him despite having been a SP (and a successful one) his entire career. This is why these athletes should make as much money as they can while they can.

I'm a big Murphy fan. He's a genuine major league hitter and has improved tremendously at 2nd. No, he's not Felix Millan but he's adequate defensively. But I've said for a couple of weeks that they HAVE to give him a break. Rest him a couple of days. Play Flores or Campbell.

No Lagares tonight. Chris Young in CF.

You have to wonder how Met management can be so consistently tone-deaf to the simple needs of the fans. Team is clearly not going anywhere. Carlyle is a mediocre journeyman at best. We've got some talented kids in Vegas. Bring 'em up! That's what St' Louis does. Also kinda pissed that we never got to see the legendary gyroball.

Another example of why you can never have too much pitching.

Does TC get a kick back from the MRI people???  Overuse/misuse and DL.  Our apologies to Scott Rice.

Given how long it took him to warm up, using him as a reliever was just asking for trouble. That said, he did a good job at it.

@ctmetsfan Everyone is so fixated on giving Flores the starting SS gig that most aren't seeing this is the way to get Flores ABs.  let him be the utility IFer and the platoon with Duda instead of Campbell. He would get 15 more ML ABs a week than he's getting right now

@metsfan91 Lagares looks lost at the plate.  He needs a day or two off.

@Kenneth Meltsner Trying to make roster moves to please the fans is a good way for a GM to get himself fired.  I'd much rather the front office make the right move rather than the popular move.
