The Mets placed pitcher Daisuke Matsuzaka on the DL on Saturday with inflammation in his right elbow. The Mets added reliever Buddy Carlyle back to the roster to take the spot in the bullpen.
Matsuzaka pitched two innings of relief on Thursday against the Brewers and went back to New York on Friday after feeling discomfort in his elbow. An MRI revealed inflammation forcing the DL stint. Matsuzaka was removed from the starting rotation when Jon Niese came off the DL on Monday and inserted into the bullpen. Carlyle was designated for assignment when Niese came off the DL and had accepted an assignment to Triple-A Las Vegas. Matsuzaka is 3-3 with a 3.87 ERA in 28 games and nine starts this season.
