The Mets signed RHP Daisuke Matsuzaka on Thursday, after he was released by the Indians. He started Friday against the Tigers.
11:55 p.m.: Matuzaka’s contract is worth roughly $100,000 (Rubin, ESPN New York).
3:40 p.m.: Matsuzaka’s contract does not include an option for 2014 (Rubin, ESPN New York). He will be a free agent after this season.
3:59 p.m.: They signed Dice-K because of the injuries to Jeremy Hefner and Jenrry Mejia and the inning limits on young pitchers in the system. The other issue was that the Mets minor league teams are in playoff contention.
4:00 p.m.: Sandy Alderson said the team wasn’t actively scouting Dice-K before he was released by Cleveland.
4:04 p.m.: Matsuzaka will likely throw between 85-90 pitches, at most, against the Tigers, Terry Collins told reporters.
