Mariners Wanted Ike Davis for Cliff Lee

According to Joel Sherman of the New York Post, the Mariners asked each team bidding to acquire Cliff Lee for their best position prospect who was ready to play at the Major League level.

The Mariners asked the Mets for Ike Davis as part of a deal for Lee, while they asked for C Jesus Montero from the Yankees, LF prospect Desmond Jennings from the Rays, and 1B prospect Justin Smoak, whom they ultimately acquired from the Rangers in exchange for Lee.

…i’d say the Mets made the right call on this one…forget the fact that Davis is one of the top rookies in baseball – who would the Mets have at first base…i suppose they could’ve reverted back to their opening day platoon of Mike Jacobs and Fernando Tatis…or not…
