Lucas Duda can hit left-handed pitching, says Terry Collins

Lucas Duda hit another home run Wednesday, his 19th of the season, and also delivered an RBI single an inning earlier against Phillies LHP Mario Hollands.

Duda started the day batting just .153 against left-handed pitchers this season.

MLB: Philadelphia Phillies at New York Mets

“Lucas Duda can hit lefties and right now I think there is that stereotypical thing that, because of where he hits in the lineup that he’s got to drive balls against everybody, but I just want him to get hits,” Terry Collins said after the game.

Duda has seven home runs in July, tied for second-most in baseball.

“It’s just amazing the transformation in such a short time period where he’s become one of the more dangerous hitters in the National League,” David Wright said about Duda after Wednesday’s win. “It’s been fun to watch.”

Matthew Cerrone, Lead Writer

I’m not sure what else there is to say about Duda, at this point. He’s starting to get national recognition for what he’s doing right now, and that’s great to see – for him and for the Mets. He’s a good story and I’m glad people other than Mets fans are starting to warm up to him. Like Daniel Murphy, pitchers are throwing him away and he’s going with it. His head is down, his shoulder is in and he’s slapping pitches away. It’s great. What’s more, he’s slowly starting to do it against left-handed pitching, which is only going to make him that much better.

Look, I don’t think he’s ever going to hit great against lefties. But, that’s OK. It is what it is. He needs to be in there regardless of who is pitching, though. It’s time. If he’s this team’s every-day first baseman, then he’s this team’s every-day first baseman. He’s earned that respect by driving 19 balls out of the ballpark. Let it roll, Terry…

WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED TO WRIGHT! 274 average and only 7 home runs. Even Murph has more.

Trade Duda this offseason he's not our future at 1B and his stock can only go down now

This is so typical of Collins. I don't think he can find his ass with both hands.

Matt, I can't argue your points but the problem is the Mets keep replacing their managers with the same guy.

In my lifetime, Art Howe was significantly worse. Jerry Manuel was pretty damn bad, too.

Duda just wants his rug, man. It really brings the room together.

Duda is number three in OPS among first basemen in the National League and number six in the entire league. He has absolutely earned the right to play every day regardless of who is pitching.

Terry also thinks Ruben is hitting well this month with his .212 BA, had not been for 3 hits yesterday he was at .186 for the month but hey Terry's much smarter than everyone else that's why he fumbles his words during the interviews

To all of those who have complained about the Mets not getting Abreu, look at the stats Duda is putting up compared to him, and then compare the dollars.  Suddenly, the move the Mets made isn't looking so crazy, particularly given our financial constraints.  (now, if you want to argue that they shouldn't have signed CY, and used that extra money to actually get Abreu, that's a different story)

Matt you wrote: "Look, I don’t think he’s ever going to hit great against lefties. But, that’s OK. It is what it is".

What does "it is what it is" mean exactly? I will tell you one thing, Duda "isn't who he was" or at least how he was perceived and dismissed as garbage by fans.  How about "Duda is!"

Collins also says that Tejada is his SS, but they're gonna find ABs for Flores to figure out who's gonna be the SS... huh?

I agree,Duda needs to be in there every game from now on,enough with the lefty/righty stuff. His bat is too hot and hes turning in to a real professional hitting 1b man for him not to be in there.I understand he got to ride the pine in the 2nd game against Philly and I also realize we kinda got blown out but,who knows what the outcome could have been in that game.Right now we could have been talking about how we swept the Phils,.Most likely the outcome would have been the same, however,Dudas so hot right now he could have launched a couple HR's that game....Water under the bridge now,but definetely think Duda has to be in there from here on out, despite a game here and there for a breather.

How the hell would Collins know? He is the worst manager the Mets have ever had.

TC.....because Duda got a hit off a lefty does not translate to him continuing the trend. I'm just happy that Lucas has finally got it going with the bat.

@almar I would agree with you 95%. Give him a day off against the lefties that own him and have him as a power bat to pinch hit. This helps him rest and gives a few at bats to Campbell.

He is not a butcher in the field. He has been better in the field this year than Ike was the last couple.

Doesnt sound stupid, man.I was thinking the same thing,I'm sure their quite content that they've found their new power bat without having to sign one.

Only about 5 hours left and no news at all coming from the FO,just Cerrone spinning some fantasy trades that will never happen.
