Jeff Wilpon, Curtis Granderson, Sandy Alderson

The least you should know from Tuesday’s Hot Stove, presented by Citi

The Mets talked about Ike Davis with the Rays and Brewers, though Milwaukee would prefer to first try and re-sign Corey Hart.

The Mets seem to be asking teams for young pitching when discussing Daniel Murphy and Davis, according to Andy Martino of the Daily News. For instance, they asked the Orioles about Dylan Bundy, but were immediately turned down.

The Mets asked the Mariners about 2B Dustin Ackley, and they have some sort of interest in free-agent pitchers Bronson Arroyo, Bartolo Colon, Bruce Chen, John Lannan, Paul Maholm, Freddy Garcia, Daisuke Matsuzaka and Johan Santana.

The Mets continue to show interest in free-agent Stephen Drew, as they are still looking to acquire a shortstop. That said, The while the Indians are listening to offers for SS Asdrubal Cabrera, the Mets are not interested.

The Mets did meet the agent for Cesar Izturis, who they view only as a possible back-up infielder.

The Mets and D-Backs met Monday, but did not find any common ground. Arizona reportedly has a surplus of young shortstops.

Lastly, the Mets re-signed Jeremy Hefner.

That photo of Sandy and Grandy... Jeff Wilpon has zero presence here, look how he is a last second add to group shot with Granderson leaning towards Sandy?

Fred, sell the team just for this reason...

Anyone see what I see?

Good articles by madden and Sherman if this site actually wanted to have some credibility and post them

I understand that they are trying to trade davis/murphy/duda to fill their rotation and bullpen holes, but in the meantime they should try to sign at least two bottom of the rotation starters to minor league deals to compete with mejia for the 5th spot.  Lannan, Capuano and Hanson come to mind

How much would Tommy Hanson and John Lannon cost us?  How about Joba for the pen? I don't mind Tejada at short as long as he hits 8th,He was productive before he got chubby and he did go to fat camp. thoughts?

Why don't they try to pull off a trade for Brandon Phillips? He has only 4 years and 50 mil left on his contract and he makes this team legit if they have too you could get a third team involved

The more you should know:  The Mets were never spending this year.  2014 was supposed to be the year that the Mets were going to put together a FA class and spend and we were duped yet again.  I knew they weren't and called it early in the off season.  IF anyone thinks they are signing anyone else of significance the joke is on you.  Just don't go to games and don't watch.  That will force these clowns to sell.

The Mets this, The Mets that that's all we ever freaking hear...so tired of this moronic organization.....oh yeah I forgot TC is still our freaking MGR..

Wilfredo Colon Jr.
Wilfredo Colon Jr.

This organization is lying to all the fans and players that signs here.the only move they gonna do is the granderson move and they really didn't want to give him that 4th year.sad I really thought they were gonna be really aggressive.

If joel Sherman is right then eric young is your leadoff hitter opening day playing LF.

Ey, grandy and cy in the OF.

Ike, Murphy, tejada and Wright and D'arnaud.

They probably bring johan and dice k back too..

I really hope the Mets can somehow land Dylan Bundy. This way, every time he comes in we can do a "whoooa - Bundy!!"

More of the same. They lied to us. We were told that 2014 would be different. I am not drinking this kool aid. Mets front office is full of BS artist who define the definition of insanity, doing nothing and expecting different results.

Ron Davis

just dreaming.  Ackley could play second move Murphy to first base would be a good infield sure Ackley is not the hitter yet but has potential to be. and you can use Satin against some lefties .  but what do you trade for Ackley.

Move Davis and Duda n put Murphy at 1B. Platoon EY/Flores and sign Drew. Live with Dice K n Harang until Noah, Montero, Mejia or DeGrom can handle it.

Ron Davis
Ron Davis

John Lannan, Paul Maholm are two guys i would be interested in over Dice K for sure and if we can't get a Arroyo.  Neither are great but i certainly would be ok with either one of these guys.

I don't see Davis or Murphy being moved unless it's out of desperation. Mets are seeking top value for Davis which is not there and most teams see Murphy as a back up utility  player. You are not going to free much salary in Davis and Murphy considering it's not much salary and you will be getting salary back trading both. You want value for Davis you need to hold on to him for a year and let him reestablish himself. Right now I would keep both Davis and Murphy, look to move Duda and sign Drew and bring back Dice K. Anyway you look at it, it' all about not going to arbitration with Davis and Murphy. Sandy keeps saying there's a plan in place and everytime he does he looks dumbfounded.

Zach Ripple

Did Sandy REALLY bring up Dylan Bundy when talking about Murphy and Ike? That's just offensive. To put in context of players on other teams, Ike is essentially Mitch Moreland in Texas and Murphy is Chris Johnson with the Braves. I would almost refuse to talk to the Mets again if I'm the Orioles. That is beyond insulting, especially for an elite, right-handed, 21-year-old pitching prospect consistently ranked near the top of the prospect charts. He's our Noah Syndergaard, except with higher prospect status. Just ridiculous.

It's always funny when a post says "met with the agent of"... Like if they met with Boras that could qualify like 300 players when in reality they aren't talking about a big name player.

looks like just one day to get anything done, if Granderson is it, i hope there is a huge outcry and everyone stays away from Citi-field and breaks the Wilpons backs financially! i hope no one buys any of Aldersons excuses and double talk and cuts him no slack!

@Kyle Ely Murphy is just as good as Brandon Phillips, maybe little less power, but he also comes 9 million dollars cheaper

@anthony G. Decesare Sounds about right.  Notice NO LAGARES in the starting lineup, that ought to make half the people in here want to jump off a bridge!!!

They said they had 13 million going into the meetings...well...if ike and Murphy are not going anywhere...sign Arroyo and Harang, deal with the rest later

If joel Sherman is right then eric young is your leadoff hitter opening day playing LF.

Ey, grandy and cy in the OF.

Ike, Murphy, tejada and Wright and D'arnaud.

Arroyo, Wheeler, Neise, Gee and Harang

Duda either starts the year in the minors or comes off the bench...

It wouldn't be that bad...

@Skyking Totally off base with Murphy...LOL!,...Sandy just wants too much for him right now, Ike too.  One of the best offensive 2B in NL and you think teams see him as a bench player....thanks for the morning laugh!

Joanie Yan
Joanie Yan

@Skyking I agree - doing what you said at least makes them competitive and keeps the payroll to around 90 mil. I don't see how trading Ike or Murphy for a minor league pitcher helps them now. But then I don't understand letting Hawkins go (and now looking to get another reliever) or nontendering Turner (who has 10 teams interested in him).

Opti-Mets-tic
Opti-Mets-tic

@Zach Ripple When the Cardinals, asked the Orioles, about JJ Hardy. The Orioles responded, that it would take Shelby Miller, to get him. Perhaps JJ Hardy is indeed more valuable than Daniel Murphy. However, I think it's fair to say, asking for the moon is par for the coarse.

Horrible! what every happened to following the example of the Red Sox and build a team with established winning players? Another Alderson/Wilpon lie! How could they face David Wright at all, they promised him some support and protection, all they day was throw him a bone and sign Granderson, These guys have now honor what so ever!

ed0709
ed0709

Klapisch is wrong in his first paragraph. The money foe Granderson and Young came from the Santana and Bay contracts, which is exactly what they said they were going to do.I don't ever remember them saying there was a"windfall "of money to increase payroll. They have a huge debt to pay off so there is not going to be a jump in payroll, everyone should realize that.Instead of whining and crying about it we should be discussing how to win on 85 million. Its not impossible because we all know 4 teams made the playoffs last year with 90million or less.

@BringBackDaveTelghe I like hammel but he will definitely get a major league contract...I was referring to low end choices on minor league deals

If Murphy don't move that's exactly what will happen...even colon with one of those reclamation projects is fine..to not sign Colon because he wants 10 mil for 1 year is childish...

@anthony G. Decesare You know it really wouldn't be all that bad.  However Drew at SS would solidfy the lineup dramatically.  Try Ike

one last time at first, and if by May 15th he is still in the toilet, bring up Duda from AAA to take his place.  Platoon either with Satin.  Ike has too much upside to give away to save on him 4M salary.  Keep Murphy, as we are going to need his offense, and keep all of your young pitching.

Adding Drew, Grandy, Chris Young and an Arroyo would be a decent off season.

PanchoVilla
PanchoVilla

@anthony G. Decesare Its pathetic!  Why only 13 million.  They should have a payroll of upwards of 100 million easy.  They are not signing Arroyo, Ike stinks.

Skyking
Skyking

@arc34 @Skyking You are over rating Murphy as the mets are looking for value they won't get. It has been reported that most team see Murphy as a back up or utility. Murphy is a solid bat and I think the mets will not get decent return for him. Myself, I rather keep Murphy. Totally off base and the lol tells me you didn't read through. My post was about moving Davis and Murphy not making sense and a way for the Mets not having to go to arbitration.

Skyking
Skyking

@Joanie Yan @Skyking It's all about dumping salary and looking for the cheapest options to fill holes and not quality. I'm sure the players they cut was about taking a gamble on bringing them back to minor league contracts. I really don't think this team will do anything else but if they do, signing Drew needs to be a priority.

@Young Ideas @Hodges14 @Jonathan Bonanno

I hope that's not true but if it is it's pretty pathetic.  There was nothing abusive or profane in those comments, just quoting articles that are available to anyone who would search.

Hodges14

@Rolando Pavon @Hodges14 @mikepiazza3186 Not sure how you sell that to the fanbase.  Since the day Alderson got here he has been telling the fanbase to be patient and supposedly 2014 was what everyone was waiting for.  There are no excuses for not winning next season other than the front office and ownership failed at their jobs.

Rolando Pavon
Rolando Pavon

@Hodges14 @mikepiazza3186 For everyone clamoring for Drew, Arroyo, Colon or any  other free agent, this article should put an end to their pipe dreams. The truth is, without Harvey, it would be difficult for this team to make the next step in 2014. So trading some of their young pitching now makes zero sense. When Harvey returns and the team IS ready, you then use those chips to acquire the missing pieces via trade.  As everyone can see, the free agent market offers over valued, flawed players.  Over the counter, store bought teams rarely win it all. A much as it'll suck, taking it on the chin this coming season may be the way to go. The key is development. You develop these players.  Some will help, some are traded off for missing pieces. I think this is the way to go.
