The Mets have told LaTroy Hawkins he has made the Opening Day roster, a team insider told ESPNNewYork.com.
The 40-year-old Hawkins has not allowed a run in five and 2/3 innings this spring, during which opponents are batting .227 against him.
He was 2-3 with a 3.64 ERA in 48 relief appearances for the Angels last season. He was signed by the Mets to a minor-league deal in late January this year.

I really like where this bullpen is headed. Hawkins brings a track record and credibility that was missing last year. I’m looking forward to, though skeptical of, Bobby Parnell as closer. I like Josh Edgin and Robert Carson as this team’s left-handed relievers. Brandon Lyon is a nice upgrade and could end up the closer at some point. And Scott Atchison and Greg Burke are unique and two really good stories. It should be better than last year’s group, no question… and, if it isn’t, there will be options in Triple-A.
