11:19 PM: The Rangers are still searching for a catcher (Sullivan).

Updated, 2:25 pm: Free agent 1B James Loney could be the Pirates’ top first base target (Stark), although the Rays remain hopeful they can re-sign Loney (Topkin).

11:20 am: The Royals and Rays are interested in free agent 2B Mark Ellis (Rosenthal).

If the Rays sign Ellis, I wonder if that means they’ll try and trade OF Matt Joyce. Such a move could put Zobrist in the outfield permanently, making someone like Joyce potentially expendable. If that’s the case, Tampa Bay could become an even stronger match for a trade with the Mets. Joyce could pair nicely with Chris Young in a platoon in one corner outfield spot, and serve as a strong power option from the left side off the bench.

11:00 am: The White Sox announced they’ve re-signed 1B Paul Konerko.

10:45 am: The Reds are now unlikely to trade 2B Brandon Phillips (Rosenthal).
