Latest on Pitching Market: Dodgers and Rangers competing for Greinke

Zack Greinke polaroidThe Dodgers appear ready to outbid everyone for Zack Greinke (CBS Sports), but the Rangers are willing to compete with the Dodgers for Greinke’s services (NY Post).

If the Angels lose out on the Greinke sweepstakes, they could look to re-sign Dan Haren (FOX Sports).

The Twins have shown early interest in signing LHP John Lannan (Washington Post).

The Nationals have re-signed LHP Zach Duke (Washington Times).

Yesterday, MLB.com reported the Rangers were interested in discussing R.A. Dickey with the Mets. But FOX Sports reported the Rangers would look to trade Derek Holland – he is comparable to Jon Niese in both his contract and stats. If Texas lands Greinke, presumably ending any discussion they might have with the Mets concerning Dickey. If Texas lands Greinke and they start shopping Holland, and the Mets decide to sign Dickey, that could have a direct impact on the Mets’ ability to shop Niese in the marketplace, as two teams with similar pitchers could be looking for a similar return. If this scenario unfolds, I wonder if the Mets will work quickly to move Niese so to avoid a cluttered marketplace.
