Kirk Nieuwenhuis to the DL, C.J. Nitkowski promoted to AAA

The Mets announced Kirk Nieuwenhuis has been placed on the Bisons disabled list with a torn plantar fascia in his foot.

Nieuwenhuis will go to Port St. Lucie to begin a rehabilitation program.

Sandy Alderson told reporters on Friday about Nieuewenhuis’ injury, but didn’t indicate he was going on the disabled list at that time.

Nieuwenhuis went just 2-for-11 with two walks and four strikeouts in five games after being demoted to Triple-A last week.

In addition, LHP C.J. Nitkowski, who signed a minor league contract with the Mets in July, was promoted from Double-A Binghamton to Triple-A Buffalo.

Nitkowski allowed one hit in 4 2/3 innings over six relief appearances for the B-Mets.
