To spotlight the Chevy Youth Baseball program, which is entering its third year, SNY visited participating youth baseball teams and asked kids what they want to know about Ron Darling:
Josh, age 9, Elsford Little League: If you could play baseball on a team with any players from any time in baseball history, who would be on your team?
Ron Darling: Johnny Bench, Lou Gehrig, Joe Morgan, Rico Petrocelli, Eddie Matthews, Hank Aaron, Willie Mays, and Carl Yastrzemski.
Demarius, age 7, Newtown Little League: How does being a professional baseball player interfere with your family and everyday life?
Ron Darling: It’s very tough on families, the players can be away from their families for weeks at a time.
Julia, age 10, All Yonkers Youth Assoc.: Are the players nervous before each game?
Ron Darling: Nervous, excited, and unafraid…
Jack, age 8, All Yonkers Youth Assoc.: When the Mets play at home, how do the players get to the field?
bMost drive, but some take the 7 train.
The Chevy Youth Baseball program is a grassroots initiative that establishes a positive relationship between the New York Area Chevrolet Dealers and the communities they serve by providing assistance to 65 leagues in contributions over $100,000 in monetary and equipment donations.
