Kevin Plawecki expected to be promoted to Triple-A soon

C Kevin Plawecki, currently playing for Double-A Binghamton, is expected to be promoted to Triple-A Las Vegas “very soon” (Rubin, June 23).

Plawecki’s promotion to Las Vegas may coincide with Travis d’Arnaud‘s return to the majors, which is expected to be Tuesday or Wednesday.

Plawecki, 23, was selected with the Mets’ 35th overall pick in the 2012 draft.

In 245 plate appearances spanning 57 games this season for Binghamton, Plawecki is hitting .329 with a .376 OBP, six home runs and 44 RBI.

We saw him play couple of years ago in the Cape Cod BB League, with the Hyannis Harborhawks. he was awesome!

Plawecki seems to be the real deal. I wonder if the Mets would consider moving D'Arnaud. Arizona will most likely clean house and start moving some of their guys. Would Arizona consider a package of perhaps Gee, Montero, Germen, D'Arnaud, Flores, Duda, Lara and Ceccinni (spelling) for Goldschmidt, Miguel Montero, Martin Prado and Chris Owings?

Good for him.  Looking forward to see how he does.  Also looking forward to see if TDA can keep up his pace back in the bigs.

This is just more of the plan in motion. The promotions last week and now the pending Plawecki promotion this is all about this franchise getting better and yet I still catcalls for Alderson and his crew. They have done a very good job restocking the franchise. The arms are developed and the bats aren't far behind, yet youyr want to run them out of town because of Chris Young. Get lost.

<----wonders if fans know how they actually sound when they float out trade proposals involving guys like Tulo, CarGo, Stanton, Edwin Encarnacion, etc.

Why would teams in contention, LEGITIMATE contention, be sellers?

Why would any of you want the Mets to commit big, LONG TERM, money to notoriously oft-injured players AS they get older?

Are Sandy and the Mets trading in a vacuum with 'X' team?  Or will some of the other 28 teams have a chance to trade for player X with Team Y, too?  Translation:  Why do we think Gee, Niese, Syndergaard, Colon, Murphy, (insert Met high prospect here), are better than what any other team has to offer?

I'm not a fan of making moves just for the sake of making moves.  I'm also not a fan of Sandy's "plan" so when i read trade Murph...the Mets MOST consistent hitter (Wright included), I'm irked.  Because i know what the Mets will get in return are...MORE PROSPECTS.  Aren't most of you tired of being on prospect watch the way we've been the last 3 years?

This is gonna be the perfect time this year to call up Colorado and see about Tulo they're 10.5 back it's done for them. Don't wanna hear about the Coors Field/Road splits he can hit anywhere and kills absolutely kills the mets at citi field. He's got a big contract if Wilpons open up that checkbook might be able to make it happen. But he's so cheap so we know the answer.

I don't want to see TD struggle when he gets back......his trade value will go down.

With the mets luck they'll get rid of TD, and plawecki will sustain a career ending injury. Back to square one.

I HOPE THE METS ARE IN LAST PLACE BY THE END OF THE NIGHT! And hopefully it will be at 4.5 games back lol

TDA is the guy to trade. Sees way to much time on the DL. Trade him this year when he gets hot

Kevin Plawecki and Travis Donuts are two high ranked good hitting Catchers who should garner alot of interest and be worth alot

Good luck to KP. The wheels are turning as the talented young ones start to rise.

Could we still technically trade Bobby Bonilla in a deal?

I'm very interested to see this kid. Looks like the real deal. But, as Randy Newman said, we've been wrong before.

Trade him montero and a lesser prospect for a nice outfield or 1b bat. Get it done

tullydew

Bring him up now.

TDA could be traded in a package to get some hitting.

Bring up Pawlecki to the bigs ASAP!

Even with zero MLB experience, he is better than the two garbage backup catchers we have now!

You're dreaming. Such trades never happen.

Tulowitzki is batting 234 on the road I wouldn't give up a bag of balls for him

@sandybgone I think Plawecki will be an excellent hitter. He'll be here sometime next year.

@sandybgone Hopefully Travis understands that and uses it to perform better. Hopefully he does, and Plawecki could play first.

Jerry Colfer

Totally agree. I wouldn't be so quick to give him up in a trade. He went thru Savannah and St Lucie last year and looks to do Binghamton, Vegas this year.

He also has 1st base credentials, but I don't know about the range and glove there. It would be nice to see Wally split his time between catcher and 1st.

To clarify:

two garbage backup catchers we have now = Recker & Teagarden

@Kevin John @sandybgone As for first base, Duda has an .806 OPS, a 128 OPS+, and 10 homers (on pace for 20-25). Let's make sure Plawecki can even play in Triple-A before replacing Duda with him.

hankincolo

@Jerry Colfer It would be nice to see Wally split his time between catcher and 1st, from the Mets dugout.

@citifield montero plawecki/flores for a shortstop, sign the outfield bat.

Toronto is in first place. They aren't trading one of their best hitters.

@Pete Brilvitch  Good comment Pete. Plawecki is not ready for big leagues yet. He needs to work on his catching skills right now. I have seen him play in Binghamton this season and the kid can hit but still needs more time honing his catching skills.  The Minors are there for a reason. People are too willing to rush him up when they do not really know  what he is yet.

zoddie
zoddie

Especially since D'Arnaud had better numbers than Plawecki in the minors. Ya never know.

Pete Brilvitch

Everyone wants to rush these kids up, but aren't all that patient if they happen to struggle out if the gate as a result.

Christopher Masiello
Christopher Masiello

@zoddie DarNoGood did have better numbers, but his playing time was so sporadic due to the injuries. He was not peeking when he came up.

This kid is on a bit of a roll.

@citifield You do realize that EE could win the MVP this year, and this is the closest Toronto has sniffed a possible World Series in years

stage52

@Pete Brilvitch Yup  too many fans are willing to throw away a player far too fast if he does not pass the fans  hyper expectations.

zoddie
zoddie

@Christopher Masiello @zoddie  I do believe he was "peaking" when he came up.  Last year in AAA he hit .304/.487/.554 before he came up to the big leagues.  That's a 1.041 OPS and would have been second in the big leagues, regardless of position.

Look at those numbers.  Those are far better than Plawecki has ever put up.  Not to say that Plawecki won't be a better big leaguer, just saying we don't know.

Hank Lee
Hank Lee

@Christopher Masiello D'Arnaud has like 6 homeruns in his last 5 minutes in AAA. Its not always about the roll ... sometimes its about the ability to adjust.

Here's to hoping that Travis is more than a AAA fastball hitter.

zoddie
zoddie

@dukewillie @zoddie @Chris Weber @metzfan22 @Kevin John @sandybgone  So you want to improve the Mets hitting by getting rid of our best hitter?

How about this - Duda is #12 among 1b in baseball in OPS.  He's hitting better than Pujols, A-Gonzalez, Chris Davis, Ryan Howard, James Loney, Joe Mauer, Nick Swisher, etc.

He also makes a FRACTION of what all those other guys make and he's under team control for a few more years.

Comments like "Duda is terrible" are plain moronic.

@jenkins Maybe, but they have been linked to all the usual suspects (Samardijza, Price, Kennedy)

@dooley  Toronto is going to trade for a pitcher but they are not trading one of their key MLB players for it.....the have a legit shot at a world Series

@William Bonilla Agreed, I thought I said that above though
