Justin Turner hopes to play in a Grapefruit League game by Thursday, according to Jorge Castillo of the Star Ledger.
Turner injured his ankle throwing to first during Saturday’s game against the Marlins. X-Rays were taken on his ankle, and they were negative.
“It’s not so much the X-rays being negative, because I figured that would be the case,” Turner said, according to Castillo. “But getting out of bed this morning and it not being stiff on me was a good sign, I guess.”
Turner has hit .286 in 12 games so far this spring.
Michael Baron, MetsBlog.com:This sounds like a minor injury, but the way things have gone this spring, I’m not going to be convinced of anyone’s health unless they’re out there on the field playing. Hopefully Turner returns as expected; considering David Wright’s and Daniel Murphy’s questionable status, it’s hard to feel good about an infield of Brandon Hicks or Zach Lutz, Ruben Tejada, Jordany Valdespin, and Ike Davis on Opening Day.
