Juan Lagares 4 (Baron)

Juan Lagares says recovery will take 1-2 weeks

Juan Lagares expects to be 100% within one to two weeks (Vorkunov, April 16), he said after reviewing MRI results with the team’s trainer.

“I feel better now,” he added.

Lagares left Monday night’s game after he felt a pull in his right hamstring.

The team placed Lagares on the 15-day disabled list on Tuesday and recalled Kirk Nieuwenhuis.

OK, Met fans.  Even money TC forces him to win his CF job back.

We know the Mets bumbling Med Staff can not handle this kind of stuff. Get an outside opinion.

Rest up Juan. Can never have enough depth - plenty of starts to go around for all between DLs and day to days. SS will remain a glaring deficiency however . Nice win in any event

Here's the formula for calculating the amount of time a Mets player will be disabled.

Take the amount of time they tell you, double it, then bump it up to the next increment......

........so......

1 to 2 weeks = 2 to 4 months.

No need to thank me.  It's simply a matter of experience.

That's 1-2 more weeks for EY to be in the lineup before Lagares gets back. After that, if TC wants Chris Young, Lagares, & Granderson to all be in the (almost) everyday lineup, essentially making EY a 4th OF, then who leads off when EY does not start? Chris Young, who has a poor OBP, strikes out a ton, & is swings for the fences? Lagares doesn't strike me a particularly good for for leadoff either. I know EY is no Rickey Henderson but he keeps the ball on the ground, draws more walks then any other Met who might lead off, and steals a ton of bases. So whoever is or isn't injured. I think EY needs to be in there pretty much every day. Having a poor leadoff hitter in there instead would greatly hurt the offense.

When is he eligible to come off the disable list, two weeks from now?

I'd be shocked if he was back in less than 3 weeks! That said, great win today!

So nice to see the team do this right for once. Take the time to get him well now, be done with it, and don't let it be an issue the rest of the summer. Much wiser than the usual "soreness, day-to-day" stuff that eventually turns into a trip to the DL anyway.

take your time.

best news so far is we are 8-7 and our top 3 arms in Vegas are doing great.

we need a ss and a closer.   could a deal happen this summer?

Yep, the conspiracy against Lagares continues unabated. Who knows? He might say three weeks the next time. The plot thickens.

Hate to see him out of the lineup, but I want him back healthy. Play it safe here!

The lead off hitter leads off exactly one inning... Is much rather have lagares over ey even if he's batting 7th and someone like tejada leads off

@PhilNYCJacksonERA9 Yeah, 1 would be tough since he's on the 15-day DL. Juan needs some work on this new math.

@Rich Towler  Ray Ramirez...I agree with you COMPLETELY.  If i'm not mistaken he's the same mensa candidate that suggested/implemented a new running style for Jose Reyes when he kept pulling his hamstring back in 04..05?

@nagel100  If Tejada continues to stink it up and we are in the hunt, i'm sure we sign Drew or make a trade mid-summer.

Who has got to be kidding u about what? I can't figure out if you disagree with me or with the other commentors.

@Vee!  I am suggesting EY over Chris Young.  I would like to see EY, Lagares, and Granderson in there every day with Chris Young as the 4th OF. Tejada leading off is bad news...the leadoff hitter sets the tone for the game, has the greatest chance of leading off an inning, and is the 1st player to get the most PAs in a game.  We need someone who can lead off by getting on base and into scoring position.  EY fits this role way more than Chris Young (who I fear may become the mets leadoff hitter) or Tejada.

@crafalko17 @kcmetsfan  You make a decent point, but historically EY strikes out much less than Chris Young, who may (unfortunately) lead off a lot of games for the Mets.  The other guys who might leadoff are Lagares (who at this point in his career still strikes out a lot, doesnt draw a lot of BBs, and seems more suited for, lets say, 6th in the lineup) or Tejada (see my response to Vee! below).  EY is the best suited for leadoff, and he really is not a bad leadoff hitter (he gets on base 32 or 33 percent of the time, which is much better than Chris Young, and he can steal). Having a good leadoff hitter is SOOO important...think about the guys we've had in that spot since Reyes! Guys like EY can fill imprtant roles, and if allowed to do so the Mets can contend.

@Joseph DeFazio @nagel100 For now the Mets will be happy if Tejada just catches the ball and throws it accurately to the correct base.  They know his bat is a lost cause, but it's hard to do a trade while teams are still trying to figure out how good they are.  And what they really need is more oomph in the lineup -- nearly all of the offense seems to be walks and singles.  Drew would be an upgrade but I'm not sure he's a difference maker with this group, especially with a Boras price tag.

We certainly have the trade chips to trade for a SS
