Juan Lagares 8 (Baron)

Lagares en route to Citi Field

3:40 p.m.: Juan Lagares is en route to Citi Field and may be in uniform for Wednesday night’s game (Rubin, May 21).

Lagares was still with family in the Dominican Republic, where he traveled Sunday to mourn a death in his family, Mets GM Sandy Alderson told reporters before Tuesday’s game.

Lagares was eligible to be put on MLB’s bereavement list, but it would have required him missing a minimum of three games and he was expected back with the team Wednesday.

The Mets could have temporarily replaced him with someone on the 40-man roster, but they instead played short-handed until he returns.

Good to see Recker back, even though his timing has been off.

I tried to add my photo on the SNY site.  Seems I can't, and the SNY help button is a dead link.  Figures.

Collins is likely to keep Lagares on the bench. So, he could have stayed in DR with more time to grieve.

I hope he plays.  He really is becoming the only reason to watch the team anymore.

If Lagares loses one more game to either CY or EYJ unless it's a legitimate reason, I'll be done with TC.

Oakland has won more games than any team  in the american league with a 74 million dollar payroll. Great job Billy! And what about those Marlins with a 46 million dollar payroll and are at .500 and 3rd place...much better than us.

They probably didn't call anyone up because they didn't want to pay for 3 days of MLB wages to the call-up while already paying Lagares.

He may be a little off since he hasn't played in 3 days. If he makes out his first time up we should probably bench him for a week to get his timing back.

What's this guy's problem with Lagares.. they need to get rid of Collins.. and regardless he is out of the line up for a legitimate reason.. what's the reason with Lagares sitting! PERIOD

Yes the best player sits - on a plane on his way back from the DR for a family funeral. He is on bereavement.

He was expected to be back in time for the game - he was delayed - like it or not, this was unavoidable.

So Largares and Tejada are the everyday CF and SS? Somebody is playing then out of a role with the Mets. That someone is Collins.

This must make T.C. very happy that he doesn't have to play him  lol

My point exactly, Maria. They never plan for "out of control". Deborah, bench depth is not the issue, you're right. It's about not being prepared, again.

@moep I'm shocked Lagares is starting tonight. With him just arriving back tonight I thought for sure TC was gonna give him at least another day. Pleasantly surprised though along with Flores at SS

@BringBackDaveTelghe  THAT'S why you'd be done with Collins? There are hundreds of other reasons with how he has mismanaged this team - esp. the young players.

Wrong. He is not on Bereavement Leave.
