8:42 pm: Mets officially place Juan Lagares on 15-day disabled list with a pulled right hamstring and recall Kirk Nieuwenhuis (Mets, April 15).
Nieuwenhuis, who hit .189 with three home runs and 14 RBIs in 47 games with the Mets last season, will wear number 9 during Tuesday’s game. The 26-year-old was hitting .310 with 10 runs scored, two doubles and eight RBIs in 10 games with the Las Vegas 51s.
7:40 pm: Sandy Alderson told reporters that Lagares will have an MRI and that there will not be a decision about the DL until Lagares returns from the test (Carig, April 15).
7:21 pm: Nieuwenhuis will get the start in center (Ackert, April 15).
2:58 pm: Lagares will be placed on the 15-day disabled list before Tuesday night’s game against the D-backs, according to a team source (Newsday, Apr. 15).
12:30 pm: Triple-A OF Nieuwenhuis is on his way to Arizona to be available to the Mets if needed for Tuesday’s game, according to a source (Ehalt, Apr. 15).
6:00 am: Lagares left Monday’s game with a pulled right hamstring, which he injured running to first base on ground ball in the seventh inning.
Lagares later told reporters he felt a pull in his hamstring. However, he’s never injured a hamstring before, so he is not sure how severe it is. The team plans to wait until Tuesday before determining whether Lagares will be put on the disabled list.
Chris Young, who is on a rehab assignment in Vegas, is eligible to be activated from the disabled list Friday, April 18.
