Mets OF Juan Lagares went 2-for-5 with a double and an RBI during his winter league game for Las Aguilas on Wednesday.
He has a hit in five straight games, during which he is 8-for-16 with three multiple-hit games over that span.
However, Lagares has yet to draw a walk in his six games this winter.
Lagares hit .242 with a .281 OBP and .633 OPS in 121 games for the Mets in 2013.

Lagares’ batting average is actually higher than his on-base percentage in Winter Ball, and that’s not good. I assume the organization has made it clear to Lagares that he needs to improve his walk rate and stop swinging at so many pitches outside the strike zone. He swung at over 35 percent of pitches outside the strike zone last season, which is way too much for the big leagues. Of course, It was his rookie season, so a free-swinging approach is somewhat expected.
I don’t expect Lagares to become a prolific offensive player. However, with his defense, if he can learn to lay off more pitches outside the strike zone, get on base and better utilize his speed, he would be more than fine as an everyday centerfielder.
