Juan Lagares (Baron)

Juan Lagares is back, Kirk goes to Triple-A

Mets OF Juan Lagares has been activated form the disabled list and OF Kirk Nieuwenhuis has been sent to Triple-A Las Vegas, the team announced.

Lagares said Tuesday that he is 100 percent healthy and ready to return to the Mets.

“My leg feels loose. It feels good,” Lagares said (Las Vegas Review-Journal, Apr. 30). “I think right now I’m 100 percent.”

Terry Collins said he intends to talk later this week with Lagares, Curtis Granderson, Chris Young and Eric Young Jr. about the pending outfield rotation, which should never result in a player sitting in back-to-back game.

Lagares was put on the disabled list in mid April with a pulled right hamstring. He had been hitting .314 with a .345 OBP, five extra base hits and seven RBI in the 13 games he played prior to injuring his leg.

...cant newenheis play first base...i think if  he got the chance that duda has it might work out well...duda just looks scared at the plate...

The kid just reeks of confidence before he went on the DL. Grandy should sit against lefties until he proves otherwise. This team would have been a bonified playoff contender if they would have made these two moves. 1. They should have blown the rangers 56 million $ deal out of the water a couple years ago and signed Darvish. 2. They should have inked Jose Abreu this past offseason. Cant be unhappy with how they have started but we would right there with the elite if Sandy would have been more active over the past Couple years.

Hahaha pirates got Ike batting second, 0for 3, that's like 0 for his last 18 I believe

Kirk needs to play every day and wasn't up with the big boys. Glad he is going to get his plate appearances in AAA

Feel bad for Kirk but, aside from one great game, he looked pretty much the same as last season. Grandy should be rested against LHP. I know it's only been a month but he's still not squaring-up the ball.

lagares should play every day....he was only outfielder hitting and he plays great defense.....grandy playin every day as well due to his contract....lets face it.....unless lagares slips up a bit, eyjr and chris young the two that will be platooning more than the others.....not sayin i agree with it but its prolly how its gonna go down

I hope Juan's leg is in great shape, it better be, we've got mid-40s tonight with relatively high humidity for these here parts. 30 to 40 percent. Could be a bit chilly. Tomorrow better.

TC will find a way to keep EY jr in the lineup for his speed. I don't think Lagares, Chris Young and Granderson will like this!

Who's playing RF when Granderson is having a off day?

WFAN announced Lagares starting in CF and leading off.  TC got it right for Day 1 at least.

Soooo....the Mets are 15-11 and the pitching staff has not only righted the ship after that rough start, they've EXCELLED....but TC and Warthen don't deserve any credit?

I see a .270 10 hr 50 rbi guy in Lagares along with his great defense.

Collins is not an on field manager so he'll find a way to screw things up. Lagares should be anchored in center. If Collins must play around with the outfield then he should with the others. Find the hot bats out of the three and play them until they're not.

Lagares.  Everyday. No questions asked.  Platoon the Young's in LF.

@Johnny Watts Stop. If they sign all these free agents how are they going to resign they're young talent. Think before you vomit.

@Johnny Watts Been more active? He had to get rid of the expensive contracts first. The bigger question will be what happens if the Mets are not a mirage. Let's say they're hanging around, dare I say it, first place at the all-star break. Does Sandy make a move for a player who might have an expensive contract?

You're kind of forgetting the 51m posting fee. No way in hell they were gonna spend over 100m.

@Johnny Watts I can't say I disagree but did the Mets really need to sign Darvish?.....Yes he would hands down be our ace this year and possibly next year with Harvey probably not being 100% the same right away....but the Mets have good starting pitching...the money could be spent better somewhere else IMO.....but I wouldn't mind having Darvish either......either way the Mets didn't spen the money lol.....I agree 100% on Abreu though

@Joe Wenzel He did look better, still too much of a swing and miss kind of guy. Keep plugging along Capt Kirk!. Besides, Abreu will pull something eventually, Kirk will be back.

@Mike Dell Italia That whole Pirate ship is stinking like fish left on a summer dock at noon. It's not all Ike's fault.

hankincolo
hankincolo

@Mike Dell Italia I take no pleasure in Ike's latest tailspin. Did the Mets win the trade? Still too early to tell, but the early returns are looking good and for that we should give Sandy's staff some credit. Now, let's see Duda, start blasting some balls.Uh, baseballs, I meant baseballs. Hey you in Bayside, stop laughing.

@Mike Dell Italia  And when Ike hit well his first two games in P'burgh, the people here screaming for managements' head over the trade were deafening.

@whyus no way, Endy was a better fielder. He judged the flight of the ball better right off the bat.

@C.K. Dexter Haven TC deserves lots of credit.  for keeping these guys playing hard no matter what happens...  i don't think he's a very good in game manager.  and he stays too loyal to certain players, and his line-up machinations are a bit insane.  and he tends to sit players after breakout games...what's with that?  however, i give him credit this year (and for most of his tenure here) for getting the most out of what has been given to him.  warthen seems to also get the most out of his pitchers overall.  hudgeons on the other hand...i feel like hitters get worse when they come here, and better when they leave.  that's either the pressure of nyc, the citi dimensions, the mets curse...or him.  or all of the above...

whyus

@Albert E Lewis  I really see him as a young Carlos Gomez. Not as fast but he reminds me so much of Gomez when I watched him his rookie year in 07 with the Mets. He's demonstrated work ethic. I think he'll peak at .285 14hr RBI's depend where you are in the order but with 30 or so 2B's and with at least 20 SB's once he acclimates to the pitchers in the league he should be very solid for years to come. Worth ethic is the key here and I think he has it. Our predictions really aren't that far off though. I just think there's a little bit more power to tap into here.

Agreed. This is the best lineup. I hope this is the lineup 75% of the time. EY can spell some guys on days off/injuries, or pinch run. Yes he provided a spark plug, but the best players should play! That's the bottom line. Hopefully, D Wright and Grandy get some Coors Field love to breakout.

nymess
nymess

@Chris Lyons Pretty much as good as this team's lineup can get, considering the options.

...a legit hitter replacing Tejada in the 8th hole would definitely round things out nicely though.

zoddie
zoddie

@Chris Lyons  Agreed.  Lost in all this whining about Collins is that he has started the right guys so far, mostly in the right order, gets guys to play hard, and this team rarely if ever makes mental mistakes.

This is exactly the lineup I had hoped to see tonight.

Though I do think Duda has shown enough power.  He's on pace for around 30 HRs.

Johnny Watts
Johnny Watts

The bad contacts are no excuse. Yes you get rid of the dead weight. Then your expected to beef back up.... especially in a big market.

Johnny Watts
Johnny Watts

I think he does. Do you take a risk on a guy like Kemp? If colarado flames out I think they entertain a deal for Tulo. But they are playing well as of now and Tulo has been tearing it up.

Johnny Watts
Johnny Watts

I dont see why the posting fee should have been a problem. I think they were just gun shy because they got burned on Kaz last time they signed a big international FA. Its alot easier to predict what guys are going to do now with advanced scouting for international FA. They are all turning out to be bargains. We should have taken the risk, whether it would have been on puig, abreu, chapman darvish ect.

Johnny Watts
Johnny Watts

Not to sound cliche but you can never have enough starting pitching. Imagine Darvish in a pitchers park like citi and not haveing to face a DH?...filthy. with co aces like Darvish and Harvey you are a playoff team even with a mediocre offense. Plus it would have made it easier to trade neise or gee(which will happen eventually). If we would have got him for 70 mil it still would have been a great bargain. Their isnt much offense in this upcomeing FA class. But if we get in on Max Sherz it allows us to package a couple starters for an impact bat that cannot be had through FA

Johnny Watts
Johnny Watts

I wonder if sandy calls the dbacks about goldsmidt. Wheeler, Syndergaard, Flores and Duda gets a foot in the door perhaps. Towers has shown a willingness to move stars just for the sake of doing so. Moveing goldy would get him fired for sure haha. Replace the pitching we moved in the trade with Max Sherz.

hankincolo

@Johnny Watts I'd love to have Tulo, but I still don't see the Rockies trading him.
Management here has to show the fans they're not in their 20th rebuilding mode.

whyus

@C.K. Dexter Haven @nymess @Chris Lyons  I think you're missing the point here. It's about lineup depth here. Tejada simply doesn't help in that category.

nymess
nymess

@C.K. Dexter Haven @nymess@Chris Lyons would say, Stephen Drew, be a legit hitter? I would still put him in the 8th spot in this particular lineup. let's not dwell on a word, I'm pretty sure you know what I mean.

that said, actually been pleasantly surprised by Tejada's play however, so I will give the pleads for a new SS a rest. it's not really fair to single him out when his OBP has been among the highest of everyday players on this team.

C.K. Dexter Haven
C.K. Dexter Haven

@Thomas McKeever and I'm asking how legit do any of you think a #8 hitter needs to be?  In two weeks when Tejada is hitting .250, is he legit then? If he peppers in a game or 2 a week like his last one...legit?
