Jon Niese 3

Jon Niese pitched in a simulated game, still on target

Jon Niese pitched in a simulated game Tuesday night in St. Lucie. He went five innings and threw 76 pitches, 49 for strikes.

Niese is tentatively scheduled to make his first regular-season start Sunday, April 6.

Daisuke Matsuzaka will likely fill in in the event he’s not ready to be activated from the disabled list.

Can anyone tell me how fast was his fastball? That information is what everyone wants to know. Can he reach 93?

The Mets should take a shot on Eduardo Nunez, His glove is questionable but his bat is much better than what the Mets have now. I also believe that moving away from Jeter's shadow will help this kids confidence defensively.

Im actually glad I saw the opening day game (I was truly debating whether to watch). I got to see possibly the last game Parnell will ever pitch in, at least as a Met. Im not being nasty btw....I actually always liked the guy and I have a funny feeling he wont be back, so Im glad I got to see him once more.

As far as Niese...let him relax for a month and then start showcasing him for other teams. WTF this stupid, SUPID, team is worried about him starting on April 6th boggles the mind. He isn't in the Mets plans going forward to begin with so maybe we get lucky and get one or two decent prospects for him at the deadline or before (assuming he isn't injured as always and is pitching decently).

Great, good for him. Now he should stay in PSL, pitch in minor league games & EARN his spot in the rotation just like Dice-K & Mejia EARNED their spots this spring. Niese is nothing special & I don't necessarily believe he is much of an upgrade over Dice-K & Mejia.

Starting Niese on the 6th is a huge mistake. He should get a couple more starts before the Mets call him up.

Any SEASON TICKET HOLDERS HERE???

Why would you buy season tickets?  Honestly.  I'm asking a serious question.  I priced 2 of the cheapest tickets and with the convenience fee to buy online (which saves the Mets money versus paying people to sell tickets at the gate), the total is just over $40....yet I can buy two better tickets on stubhub for $6 each.

What is the benefit to buy season tickets if you won't be able to make a few games, can get better tickets for cheaper on stubhub, and there is virtually no chance of the playoffs?

Jose reyes on the DL. I know tejada sucks but for everyone complaining about reyes this summer, he's not worth the money.

@yankeehater  I would move him as soon as the opportunity presents itself. Never a big Niese fan, soft, underachiever.

@buddyryan You expect the Mets to learn from their mistakes with what just happened to Parnell? Hahahahaha

No you wouldn't, they live and die with Jose up there and he didn't make it through opening day. DL. And you wanted to trade prospects for him?
