Johan Santana will long toss today, then throw off a mound Friday, according to a report by ESPN NY’s Adam Rubin.
Rubin says Santana is expected to face batters either in a B-game or in a batting-practice setting next week, after which he will hopefully start a Grapefruit League game March 10 or 11.
Matthew Cerrone, MetsBlog.com:
The buzz in St. Lucie is that Santana was very frustrated with his last bullpen session, and from that the team delayed his initial start. It doesn’t sound so much as a setback, so much as he just wasn’t happy with his timing and didn’t want to force his progress. Instead, he and the team rather go slow, and do it right. So long as they stick to the schedule Rubin lays out, Santana should get the necessary four spring-training starts to be ready for Opening Day.
