Johan Santana should make his first Grapefruit League start next Thursday, Terry Collins said yesterday, according to Adam Rubin of ESPN New York.
1:05 pm: Johan Santana should at least be ready for the second time through the starting rotation, Mets GM Sandy Alderson said earlier today on SiriusXM’s MLB Network Radio.
In regards to reports and public reaction to Santana’s “setback,” Alderson said, “Too much has been made about that situation.”
March 6: “He’s happy with the way he feels,” Collins said. “He’s happy with the way he’s throwing right now. Again, I think it’s a major step forward for us.”
Santana threw a 15-pitch bullpen session on Sunday, although the catcher was situated in front of the plate.
Santana did throw a long-toss session on Monday, after which Dan Warthen said Santana was making a lot of progress building arm strength.
