Johan Santana will start for Brooklyn on Sunday

According to MetsBlog’s Michael Baron, Sandy Alderson said Johan Santana will begin a rehab assignment with Single-A Brooklyn on Sunday.

Alderson said Santana will pitch three innings in his rehab start, and will likely return next Saturday against the Braves at Citi Field.

Earlier today, Terry Collins didn’t rule out the possibility of Santana rejoining the Mets and pitching later next week.

Santana was placed on the disabled list on July 21 with an ankle injury that he sustained in a start against the Cubs before the All-Star Break.

Since injuring his ankle, Santana is 0-3 with a 13.51 ERA in three starts.
