On Thursday in the Arizona Fall League, Mets RHP Jeurys Familia was roughed up for three runs on two hits, including a home run, in one inning of relief for the Scottsdale Scorpions.
Familia has pitched two innings over two appearances for Scottsdale. The runs he allowed yesterday were the first he’s allowed this fall.
Familia made just nine relief appearances for the Mets during the regular season. He underwent surgery in early May to remove bone chips from his right elbow and did not return until late September.

It’s important for Familia to do well when he pitches, but right now, it’s probably more important that he’s pitching and staying healthy during the process. He missed so much time in what was a crucial year for him both for his development and in determining his value to the franchise going forward. Luckily, his injury was not structural and he was able to bounce back quicker than expected. It will be interesting to see what’s next for him after the AFL season and whether or not he pitches in the Caribbean League during the winter months.
