Jerry Seinfeld has no interest in owning Mets

Mets fan and legendary comedian Jerry Seinfeld says he has no interest in buying the Mets (Esquire, May 24).

“Never even for a second,” Seinfeld explained. “It would be an endless series of headaches morning till night. The peak of being a fan is a hotdog and a beer and a seat at the game. There’s nothing above that. Nothing above it.”

It sucks but just stop going to the games, they will sell.

And the Wilpons have zero interest in selling.....so what are we talking about here?

Jerry did a terrible job throwing that first pitch.

Wilpon clan did you get the message? Jerry, says it all. Wonder what Bill Maher(minority investor) is muttering to himself about the club.

Not that there's anything wrong with it.  Just don't let George switch to cotton uniforms.

Jerry can fund it, Larry David can run the team in his Big Stein character and Jason Alexander can take over for Jay Horowitz as the Traveling Secretary.  "Big Stein wants an eggplant calzone!"  It couldn't be any worse than the situation we're stuck with.

The Mets are already a joke they don't need a comedian as an owner.

yes there would be plenty of headaches, but also Jerry has to realize what if the Mets under his ownership would actually start contending and win their first title in almost 30 years, all the headaches would be worth it. IMO.

Seinfeld doesn't want to own the Mets. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Larry David would actually be the perfect Mets owner:  a self-loathing narcissist with neurotic personality disorders.  It would be like Steinbrenner, M. Donald Grant, and Donald Sterling all rolled into one!

Can someone please videotape the Wilpons being racist so we can be done with these idiot owners already

Sports casters say that Wilpon has to spend $115ml to have a competitive team. Wilpon wants to spend $75.....he saves $40ml. per year to pay back debts. Do you have to be a math genius to figure it out?

I agree. Becoming the owner of the NY Mets will be a lifetime of headache because everyone will tell you that nothing you are doing is right.

It would not surprise me that Wilpon wants to get the team down to the $75ml. payroll for 2015-2020 in order to pay back loans to investors and banks. As long as TV revenues come in he is safe on making a few bucks to live on lavishly.

The Wilpon's are not selling, what does it matter.

We're stuck with the wilpons and that's not changing, get use to it

He is right. A lot of fans get so worked up in the finances and running of this team that it takes away from the fun. The Wilpons are the ones who are supposed to do that stuff.

@fatherflot Steinbrenner may have been a narcissist, but he was also a winner. A HUGE winner who took a dying franchise and turned them into the most valuable sports franchise in the world.  We should be so lucky.

@greekgod Apparently the Wilpons do. They spent approx. 94M last year and they still lost money. So they decided to further cut payroll, down to currently under 80M. The Mets won't be spending anywhere close to 115m anytime soon. We are the epitome of a small - mid market team

@greekgod I agree with Greekgod because the Mets was behind 2 run.The rain out was a blessing maybe the doubleheader will bring the Mets back to life.

We'll see. I still think the situation with Saul Katz bears watching. If he decides that he wants out, that could change everything

@Steven Glansberg Probably true, but: Fred is a million year old. When he goes, Jeffy's A.D.D. might kick in and take him to other pursuits. Sorry, my alarm clock just went off. I must have been dreaming.

It will be very interesting to see what happens when Jeff is the sole owner. I don't think he has any interest in running this team without his daddy to back him up.

@Joe Wenzel @openmind6 agreed.  I don't have a high opinion of most rich people but almost universally I have disdain for the silver spooners, they usually don't turn out well.

Jeff is going to be like James Dolan.  Mark it down.
