Jeremy Hefner 5 (Baron)

Jeremy Hefner advancing in TJS recovery

Jeremy Hefner, who had Tommy John surgery last August, is making strides in his recovery.

Hefner threw 25 pitches on Wednesday in Port St. Lucie, and is on track to throw his first official bullpen session on Sunday (Santucci, June 18).

The Mets non-tendered Hefner last winter, but quickly re-signed him to a minor league deal.

If Hefner continues to progress as he has, he could be ready to return by the end of the summer.

What number does he wear when he comes back? Assuming Abreu is not traded.

Not for this year but you never know  he can be sent to Triple A and become a extra arm because every team has injurys he maybe insurance for 2015 you can't get by with 5 pitchers now adays

For him i am happy. and with all due respect to say he will not help with all due respect is shorting Hefner. it gives us more depth to deal other pitchers you can't have enough arms and most times your even more stronger after TJ so i disagree . if your expecting to be Tom Seaver i agree that is never happening but your realistic. he is ok he is not headline news but nobody knew Mike Scott would ever amount to anything after we traded him for Danny Heap.  I am not saying Hefner is Scott but nobody knew he would be as good as he turned out. Nobody gave Rick Reed any second thought when he came to us or R A Dickey were after thoughts that turned out well.
