Jenrry Mejia

Mejia to throw bullpen Friday, Terry unsure of next start

1:10 pm: Jenrry Mejia will throw a bullpen session Friday, at which time Terry Collins will determine whether Mejia can make his next start, the manager said Wednesday.

Mejia left Tuesday night’s game with a torn blister on the middle finger of his throwing hand.

The 24-year-old righty had given up two hits over five scoreless innings on the mound while striking out three and walking two before leaving the game.

6:10 am: He said after Tuesday’s game that it should not prevent him from making his next start. He said the same thing after his previous start against the Braves (Rivera, April 15).

“He’s got one helluva blister,” Terry Collins later said, noting that Mejia will get an extra day of rest between starts due to Thursday’s off day. “Obviously, there’s a concern.”

Mejia told reporters he wanted to stay in the game, but Dan Warthen insisted he pulled from the game to keep the blister from getting worse.

I guess Nu Skin is only for bowlers who break blisters.

Stock up on pickle brine. Worked pretty well for Nolan Ryan.

Well since he can only throw 120ish innings this year, why not let  him heal and go get Montero for a test drive?

DL Mejia to let him heal (why waste the arm when he's not at full strength?) , use the off day to skip Beef Supreme's next turn, Montero then replaces both of them in one start and then if Beef Supreme's back & knees feel good, wedge him in and let Montero continue for Mejia until the blister feels better.

By then you can send Montero back down for a few weeks to stop his service time clock.  There's no way Neise and Beef Supreme are getting through the entire season,  so Thor and Montero can probably slide in seamlessly.

Sincerely,
Run On Sentence

Nolan Ryan was known to always get Blisters . well he used to soak his hands in pickle Bryne. if it worked for the strikeout king why not Mejia?

Um..just a blister, not even a real injury. Funny he pitched fine with it but had to be rmoved when it poped

Tonight:  Wilmer, still batting 4th and playing SS, is 2-4 with a HR and 3 RBI.  Turned a couple of DP's too.  deGrom pitched 7 innings, scattered 3 hits, 0 runs, struck out 4 and walked 1.

Jenry Meija is like the Danny Amendola (WR) of the MLB good when hes healthy but pretty sure he is made of glass. He is injured 24/7 Hopefully he impresses this season enough to make a good trade I think he would be a good trade piece because he gets injured so often I would rather have the spot occupied by another guy who is more reliable from a health standpoint.

He has 6 days to recover they r off Thursday.

hopefully he can build up some trade value by pitching well because you just can't count I him long term. wonder if that's what the front office was thinking when they stuck him in the major league rotation.

It's Amazin' how injuries just find this team. Ugh.

@Joe Wenzel Yea its something a player just has to work through.  Eventually a callous develops and its not a problem anymore.

@qualcomm  Besides the fact that it seems like an awful lot of work around just to get a few starts for Montero, I'm not sure what the rush here is.  Bartolo is 2 QS's in including a 6 SO innings vs. the Mets nemesis in the "house of horrors".  Mejia ha been called "baby Pedro Martinez" by fans on THIS blog and has been pitching VERY well.   If you're telling me Montero is the difference in 2014 between the Mets being the also ran that they are and REALISTICALLY challenging for the NL East crown, then ok.  Otherwise...

@Sean Andrew Ingram Why is that funny?  Have you ever had a blister before?  Everyone knows the worst part about a blister is when it pops.  They don't really hurt until they pop and the raw layer of skin below gets exposed.

In fact his command, curveball and sinker was alot better tonight! maybe that blister made him be more of a pitcher than a thrower.

@doubleday  If Duda and Davis could get respectable, I'd try to package them both with a decent arm, for a good SS, and then figure out the rest of the infield with Flores, Murphy, Wright.

Then after that world series breeze, trade one of them to make room for Smith.

@Joe Wenzel  I just read online that pickle juice probably isn't a valid treatment.

Then I thought how I use to wonder if guitar players should let the old Elmers glue, dry on their fingers if they didn't have calluses yet, and if that had blister applications.

Then I saw something similar suggested about super glue and before I could read further in case it's an awful idea, a pop up ad blocked my reading. So I closed the window.

@cmetsfan How about that nasty stuff people can put on fingers before bowling? I get blisters in the same few spots whenever I bowl, but that goop they sell prevents it.

@qualcomm I wouldn't know, but you should probably specify the goop on here if you haven't already.
