Jacob deGrom has been named the National League Rookie of the Month for July, a month in which the 26-year-old went 4-1 with a 1.39 ERA.
In five starts spanning 32 1/3 innings pitched in July, deGrom allowed just five earned runs, walked seven, and struck out 38.
During his first August start – this past Saturday – deGrom had a no-hit bid broken up with two outs in the seventh inning.
Overall in 2014, deGrom is 6-5 with a 2.77 ERA and 1.22 WHIP in 94 1/3 innings pitched.
DeGrom was ticketed for the bullpen when he was called up from Triple-A Las Vegas in mid-May, but circumstances resulted in him instead entering the starting rotation – where he has thrived.
