Jacob deGrom for NL Rookie of the Year

Mets 25-year-old rookie RHP Jacob deGrom held the Mariners to one run in seven innings to move to 4-5 with a 3.01 ERA this season.

He has a 1.59 ERA in his last six starts.

“He’s always flown under the radar. He still is,” Terry Collins said after the game. “This guy has got numbers to match up with any rookie in the league, and you never hear his name mentioned.”

Lucas Duda told SNY after the game that deGrom was outstanding all night.

“He always has a certain presence on the mound and he keeps his composure so well,” Duda said. “He’s beyond his years.”

Matthew Cerrone, Lead Writer

His last three starts (Braves, Marlins, M’s) have been sensational. Last night in particular, he had a terrific fastball, but his slider, curve ball and change up have been so great of late too, especially against Seattle’s left-handed hitters. He’s getting swings-and-misses with his change up, but – at worst – the opposition is making weak contact. He’s been in total control…

He struggled early in the year with letting too many runners reach base, especially by walks. Thankfully, he was benefitting from nice fielding and a bit of luck and managed to get by. Now, he’s just dominating hitters, challenging them and not walking people. He may fall behind, or give up a hit, but he doesn’t get rattled. He stays in character, focused and within himself, he’s locked in, and I like this. He’s very mature, and makes it feel like we’re watching a veteran pitcher.

It often feels like he’s just playing catch with Travis d’Arnaud.

He's # 2 or 3 starter with what the Mets will have next year... Solid pitcher only going to get better.... Harvey, Wheeler, deGrom, Gee, and Niese would be higher here, but I strongly believe he has arm trouble in his future. Too many times on short DL says for various arm issues.

I enjoyed the game last night Jacob. You went right after the hitters! Seven so's in seven innings! Hope your in the rotation next year. Going to be a blast with all this upcoming pitching! Now if we can get a power bat in the lineup we'll be fine. Bullpen looks pretty good so far! Congrats on the win Jacob!

There's still a long way to go, but he definitely has the talent. With a bit of hitting behind him he could end with a W/L at least a few games over .500. If that happens and if he stays on track with WHIP and ERA, then yeah, sure, he's a contender for ROY. We'll see come fall.

The only thing standing in his way of ROY is Billy Hamilton.

He definitely should be considered. He would have a much better record if he had a team behind him.

not good in the win/loss category but ERA has been very very impressive lately

He definitely deserves it. If they'd score some runs for him when he pitches, his record would look better. He can't do it all himself, even though he can hit the ball. Anytime he's on the mound, he's not letting much go.

Now if they'd only get a shortstop and left fielder.

if you watch him pitch you will see the talent and he is just going to grow as a pitcher a welcome sight and could be ROY

De Grom, Harvey, Noah, Wheeler, Gee/Niese. Now that would be a nice rotation for 2015!
