In studio with Matt Harvey?

Bob Raissman of the Daily News thinks the Mets should make Matt Harvey part of their on-air broadcast team with SNY, while the pitcher is sidelined and rehabbing from Tommy John surgery this summer.

“If Harvey has the time, what better way for the Mets organization to keep him connected with the fan base than allowing SNY suits to put him on the air,” Raissman writes. “We are not talking a major schedule here. Maybe a few games or studio appearances during the regular season.”

In 2006, SNY used Mets pitcher Brian Bannister as an analyst before and after the game while he was in New York rehabbing his injured hamstring.

Idealistically speaking, and for SNY, sure, this sounds great. However, in the real world, the negatives here totally outweigh the positive for Harvey and the Mets. Most important, I’d rather see Harvey totally focused on his rehab. What if he’s terrible? He’s my favorite player, he’s awesome, and I don’t want to not like him for any reason.

Lastly, it’s probably bad practice for the ace of the staff and team’s biggest and brightest young star to be in a position to openly criticize his teammates, especially when he’s not technically on the team and in the trenches with them on a daily basis. Again, I like the initial sound of this, but I hope it is not actually being considered…

Matt Harvey's segment on SNY brought to you by Qualcomm.

I'm much more concerned with whether or not Harvey will ever be the same again and stay healthy.

having him appear every once in a long while is ok. but he shouldn't have a regular tv gig like that. last thing his ego needs is to be an on-air tv personality that gives opinions gets all dolled up for the cameras. let him rehab. this would be such a tacky PR move.

Separated at birth: Raissman and Iron Sheik?   Speaking of Raissman article, did anyone see the one over the weekend in the Daily News regarding Yes is dumping Francessa's show for Michael Kay's?  I am hoping callers ask him about it this week just to see him act like it doesn't bother him yet you know deep down it has to burn him.

Brian Bannister, that's a name I haven't heard in awhile. Wasn't he traded for Burgos?

Bad idea to put Harvey in booth. A teammate has a bad game - what does he say? If he is truthful, there is trouble in the clubhouse. We don't need that.

This pic is joke.  Every time I see it I look for Andy Sandberg to be in the background.

Sure the guy without one full season under his belt. In a way, slowing down the victory parade was the only good thing to come out of this injury; there was an uncomfortable amount of pretense on the part of us as well as Harvey himself. This is not a game measured by small increments of time. This should be a time for Harvey to disappear and get better while we calm our unrealistic expectations of semi perfect games every 5 days.

Qualcomm demands to hear from Maggie Wiggin! Also, Qualcomm feels Pedro's Rooster should join SNY's broadcast.

That is all. Qualcomm approves the rest of your day; you may continue with it.

For all of you who recall his Qualcomm disaster, I say this. This is America, we give boat loads of miscreants a second chance at redemption. Why not Harvey?

Once a week, or once a month, with limited exposure, he'll be fine. I'm sure if they do this, they'll run down what's expected. If Matt Harvey wants to do it, and I do believe he's an adult, who can legally drink, drive and vote, then he can make his own decision.

Why haven't anyone realized, that there hasn't been a net change

in the outfield slugging power since April 2013. They will continue to have one of the lowest slugging percentages in baseball. This will continue to put a strain on the pitching staff over the course of a season. Its great to build an effective pitching staff but if they fail to score runs, they won'tWIN.
Do you agree or disagree?

What could possibly go wrong?

(Yes, it's sarcasm, folks. Please don't reply with a list of what could go wrong).

Harvey should completely disappear until he's healthy.

Great idea!! Maybe in between at bats, Wright could serve as a hot dog vendor

Like the idea of him sitting with Darling and Mex but I don't know if he needs to open his mouth, just watch, listen and learn

Why assume the guy can string 10 words together?  Let him rehab and not remind Met fans what could have been this year.

Yeah, we don't want to over-inflate this guys already inflated head.  Stay in the dugout, maybe he can commentate for an inning here and there from the dugout...but no more than that.

This might have been a cool idea with Santana this past season, but in Harvey's case, he belongs in the dugout with his teammates.  He hasn't even pitched a full season - he's still got far more to learn than he's got to teach TV viewers.

lol at a grown man contemplating "what if he's terrible? He's my favorite player, he's awesome! I don't want reasons to not like him"

And "focus on his rehab" .... what, he shouldn't watch any baseball? he should have no life outside of his doctor's office? Weird stuff here.

@hankincolo  Qualcomm has not given him permission to do such things! Why do mock me?  Kneeeel before Qualcomm!

@Andrew Wharton I completely agree all we need is the Mets ore drawing unhealthy media. That unhealthy media could spread into the clubhouse.

@mcreynoldsQualcomm approves this message! Mr. Wright should deliver his franks and beans between at bats just like Strawberry did.  Qualcomm thinks he should vend in the bullpen.
