The Mets are still looking to trade 1B Ike Davis, and are continuing discussions with the Orioles, Brewers and Pirates (Puma, Dec. 27).
The Mets were unsuccessful in their attempt to acquire 20-year-old minor league pitcher Eduardo Rodriguez from the Orioles in exchange for Davis (Puma, Dec. 27).
The Pirates remain in play for Davis, and the Mets recently asked them for pitching prospect Nick Kingham (Perrotto, Dec. 17).

I don’t expect the Mets will get more than a mid-level pitching prospect for Davis right now – and even that may proving to be difficult. Perhaps that can change as camp gets closer and these teams struggle to fulfill their needs. However, if the return ends up being less than they wanted, the Mets might be better off bringing Davis to camp, showcasing him with Lucas Duda, and letting them compete for a job.
In talks with Milwaukee, Sandy Alderson asked for RHP Tyler Thornburg during the Winter Meetings (McCalvy, Dec. 11, Duquette, Dec. 10), but Thornburg is set to be Milwaukee’s fifth starter (Haudricourt, Dec. 12). As an alternative to Davis, the Brewers have shown interest in signing free agent Michael Young to be their first baseman (Rosenthal, Dec. 18).
