Bartolo Colon 4

ICYMI: The latest Bartolo Colon trade rumors

The Mets will listen to trade offers and may actively shop RHP Bartolo Colon, according to team sources (NY Post, July 4).

The Yankees, A’s, Blue Jays, Angels, Orioles, Brewers, Indians, Pirates and Mariners have all been listed in reports as teams that could have interest in acquiring Colon.

According to former GM now ESPN analyst Jim Bowden, the Mets can expect to be offered one, good upper-level prospect for Colon (ESPN Insider, June 27).

The 41-year-old Colon will earn $9 million this season, and is due $11 million in 2015.

No big deal, get him out of here. I wouldn't pay money to watch him pitch.

It's like the dickey situation you love him for a prospect no doubt

If they move Colon along with the other Veterans they have moved out, their payroll will be down to 68 million, 25 million less than last year!!

With the young talent that we've stockpiled, image what kind of team that we would have with a $150m payroll....

Move Colon, Murphy and Wright to get to the lowest payroll in the league....shameful!

To be fair guys, we all knew this was the plan for Tolo anyway, right?  I mean did any of you really think he was going to play both years of the contract in Queens?  At 41 years old?  With the embarrassment of "riches" the Mets have in the starting pitching ranks?

Alderson's player evaluation skills are spotty, at best.

Hopefully there's enough completion among the suitors to land a solid prospect this time.

Dump payroll and add another prospect? Colon is history.

Definitely, this franchise needs a Colonectomy.

Can this team be expected to do anything right?

If they don't trade Colon then they are fools!!! He serves absolutely no purpose for the future - (obviously). This is not about salary dump, but just a smart baseball decision (that's what scares me!). A decent prospect can be had - teams in contention are pitching starved and will somewhat overpay this time of year. If Sandy waits til the offseason the return will drop because he will be avoiding a bidding war. I'm not saying the return will be a teams top five prospect, but top ten...perhaps. See Dilson Herrera - I think I would take that again in a heartbeat!

If the Angels said give us Duda and Colon and we will give you AJ Cron and Grant Green do you do it?.. just a question.

Sandy just has too see whos desperate for a starting pitcher.

Yeah More Prospects!! We Love prospects!! Thats what the mets do-Collect prospects!!-God forbid we should get a major league ready player-Nah-Sandy couldn't let that happen

Trade Colon, Flores, Niese, Gee, Degrom and Murphy to the Yankees for all these stupid prospects and we can root for the homegrown Mets in the Bronx with a decent manager a good pitching coach and an owner that wants to win. Then when Harvey flips Fred and Jeff off he will sign in the Bronx.

Albert E Lewis

Even Grant Green from the Angels  wouldnt be bad. has hit everywhere he plays same type of hitter as Flores.

Colon for NYY OF Judge;

Gee to Pirates for Bell;

Wheeler to Cubs for SS Addison Russell

Murphy (and someone not important) to A's for Pomeranz and Griffin.

Lets hear it for 2016.

They will take a pack of gum for Colon just so they can dump some more payroll.

I wouldn't trade anyone here for Aaron Ledezma and Mike Howard!.. and that's even if you included F-mart!

William Bonilla

I would trade both Colon and Dice-k to the Yankees....get back 2B Refsnyder (Murphy clone with better D) and Mason Williams (speedy OF who can hit) Mason Williams stock has dropped this year but last year he was regarded as the Yankees number 1 prospect....I don't think they are too big on him right now but if all we give up Colon and Dice-K Mason Williams would be a nice pickup...potential leadoff hitter and good defense....he seems like another Brett Gardner...should be better if he gets back on track

Albert E Lewis

Wonder what you might have to add to Colon to get OF Joc Pederson from LA?

@eric88 In order to get a really good prospect, we will probably have to pay part of Colon's salary.

blueorange

@eric88. What a dumbass statement. What's your point? Moving Colon for a good prospect is the right move to do and probably was the plan when they signed him.

@John Schod Exactly that. Imagination.

Who said anything about moving wright. The chances of trading Murphy are slim and if they do they will get a quality player back. Just making stuff up to complain. Typical sad ass met fan. If you are on this blog you knew Colon wasn't going to be here 2 years.

I agree up to the level of prospect; no way he gets only one back end prospect for Colon. You should be able to get one elite prospect or two Bs for a #2 starter who's also signed for next year.

@Albert E Lewis  No.  Cron is not better than Duda.  Completely overrated, especially on this site, it seems.

Like he did when he got Wheeler and d'Arnaud? Years away? Oh, not so much?

Seriously, name one key player that Sandy acquired that was 5 years away. Herrera is in AA, Thor is in AAA, Vic black is in the majors, Wheeler is in the majors, d'Arnaud is in the majors.

@JasonMiles  AlderFraud,the King of prospects!

As much as I would love a MLB ready player, I'm afraid that's about all we are going to get in return for Big Bart.

Maybe one of these days Alder will make a big splash of a deal for a proven MLB power bat.

@Eric Hack  Take Niese,deGrom & Murph out of the equation and do what you must with the others.

Harvey also goes nowhere!

@Eric Hack  If the Yankees actually had any prospects, I'd be on board.  But  I'm sure they can find some other takers for these guys.  Dealing Colon, Murphy, Flores and deGrom for 5-7 good prospects would be a great move and would be a huge step in finally turning things around on this team.

@metsfan_82 Cubs aren't going to turn around their prized acquisition in the Samardzija/Hammel trade for just Wheeler

Christian Pezzuti

@William Bonilla these guys were being considered by the cubs for shark and hammels. You think the yankees will give them to the mets for a couple of pitchers on the wrong side of 40?! Sign me up!!

SomeHighSchoolKid

@Albert E Lewis No chance he gets moved unless we trade them our entire farm system.  The Dodgers wouldn't let go of him for Samardzija and Hammel.

Any team that trades for Colon is in contention and will not want to weaken their major league team. That's how trades usually work. One team trades their future for the present. The Mets have plenty of starters in 2015 and beyond. We need more outfield prospects.

metsfan_82
metsfan_82

@C.K. Dexter Haven @metsfan_82 Cubs have all infield positions occupied by high end talent (Bryant, Baez, Alcantara, Castro, Rizzo, plus more in minors).  They are covered in the outfield in the minors.  Cubs will want to trade one of the infielders, probably not Bryant or Baez.  They need pitching.  Wheeler is considered someone who could turn into an ace.  We could push them on Russell for wheeler straight up, but as an alternative, we could offer montero and pawlecki, as they need a catcher.

@tullydew If deGrom and Colon get Joc Pederson that is a trade that the Mets have to make.
