Juan Lagares is getting at-bats in extended spring training games in Port St. Lucie, Fla., although he is not yet running the bases. He eventually get a rehab assignment with Triple-A Las Vegas before rejoining the Mets. The St. Lucie boxscore from yesterday has Larages playing CF and taking 4 ABs...Looks like he felt well enough he was able to play in an actual game?

Mets need to get their offense going or Sandy (wilpons) need to go get them some help. Their offense have been pretty bad overall and they are lucky their pitching is carrying the team. The winning will not last if they don't improve the offense.

>>> Curtis Granderson completed a two-out, ninth-inning rally for a walk-off RBI single late Friday, which was followed by a pie to the face

He subsequently went 0 for 7 over the weekend with 2 BB, 2 R and 2 Ks.  There was no pie to the face following his oh for the weekend.  He is now batting .129 for the season.

Trade EY Jr., Tejada and DeGrom to the Padres for Everth Cabrera. Leadoff hitter and shortstop solved.

Friends and colleagues in my parish, most of whom are Yankee fans, tell me that the annual Mets "slump" is coming, which, they say, will knock the Mets far down in the standings and well below .500. Is there any reason not to believe them this time around?  My heart says "yes," do not believe them.

Come on Sandy. Give us one or two more legitimate bats and we can make a playoff run...and with Harvey back next year, maybe, dare I say...an October run?

Need to do better than a .218 team batting average and .614 OPS if this club hopes to stay in the mix longterm.  25 games in isn't a huge body of work to pass judgement on, but we're playing with fire if we think the starting pitching can carry the load all season without some help.

That said, the whole lot of Outfielders needs to get it going - or at least 2 of them do.  I'd love to assume Lagares will eventually come back and keep tearing it up, but that'd be foolish.  I sure hope he does, but that's tough to bank on.  So we're looking at you Grandy and C. Young.  And as well as Tejada has played in the field, there's a big part of me hoping Sandy is still in contact with Drew and Boras - or at least some type of sensible option than can hit a lick at the SS position.

Go Mets.

@nolrog In the interest of balanced reporting, can we please see some videos of Kurtis Bay doing what only he can do best?  Looking at that on video might take a while.  What a bum.

@brian2740  Mets will know by end of May where they will be at during the summer months coming especially if Alderson did not do a thing about a big bat (30/120) guy.

@Jeff Babcock  This is a typical Met fans deal. Trade one potential prospect and 2 virtually worthless players for a player who seems to be on the verge on a breakout season. Would you do these trade if you owned Cabrera? Of course not. Why would SD?

A more realistic trade might be Niese and Degrom for him.

@Jeff Babcock EY Jr has no value, he's one of the weakest hitters in the league.  Tejada has no value, to anyone.  DeGrom is nice, but he profiles as a guy that will be transitioned to RP and he's getting very old for a prospect.

Why wouldn't SD hang up and laugh?

The Padres would ask a lot in return. But I would offer Gee, DeGrom, Flores and Puello. No way I include Lagares.

@Jeff Babcock I think you would have to replace deGrom with gee or niese and perhaps ey with lagares...I would still do it

@Father Dooley  They are going to need to step up on offense which is struggling again. It is up to the Wilpons and Sandy to get this team some offensive help or Yes I believe they will struggle again. Their starters have been carrying the team so far, you can't expect them to continue to do that, they need some consistent offensive players.

What we have this year is pitching 1-5 and a few decent arms in the pen (with more ready at Vegas).

Since our initial Brave bashing we are 14-8, we have a .500 record at home (not good, but not bad) and our offense has done very little.

We have done it with good defense, good pitching and a lot of grittiness.

If I was a Yankee, I would be happy with my pitching but expect the aging offense to start to come apart in August.

Said another way, your Metsies should be competitive all season.

I'm so used to this team falling apart in the summer that I am a bit nervous. We will just have to wait and see.

@Andrew Pasquale  Legit bats would be nice.  Even a legit BAT....without the s would be a welcomed change.   Not much can happen when Lucas Duda is your most intimidating hitter.

@BringBackDaveTelghe @Jeff Babcock exactly...for a player of Cabrera's caliber you need to start with a legitimate centerpiece like niese or gee, either would be the ace of the padres staff...then you sweeten the deal by adding lagares who would be a nice fit for the padres...to finish off the package you could offer tejada...not sure if san diego would have a ss to replace Cabrera...if they do the mets could send them a low level prospect...all that being said, the padres would likely hold onto Cabrera who is under team control through 2016

mets2014
mets2014

@drmetfan so dr crazy, you would rather trade away TWO starting pitchers plus puello AND flores just to keep lagares?

Andi

@drmetfan  I always wonder why we (Mets) always have to offer 2-3 players for 1 of theirs. I don't remember where I read this, but isn't the Mets' farm system rank highly  now (not sure where the Padres rank) but it's always frustrating that we have to give up more.

Stupid....Gee should get the deal done Alone. He is an above average pitcher.

Lee Lewin

@mets2014 @Jeff Babcock  i'd do it with Niese/Gee, but no way with Lagares. We have seen what his defense does to the team and his bat not being a liability makes him highly valued.

Is it me or did Grandy hit a walk off Friday, abreu homer Saturday and Chris young yesterday? Did we not score 14 runs over the weekend? Are we not going to a bandbox tomorrow and outer space on Thursday? You guys need to relax.

@chasesimms @Father Dooley  Why, He cheers for the Mets of course...the good guys!

BringBackDaveTelghe
BringBackDaveTelghe

@chasesimms @Andrew Pasquale That's true, and the offense has holes, but Wright is going to improve and start hitting for power.  Grandy will get it going.  TdA has shown great strides the last couple of weeks, Lagares coming back (hopefully) pushes EYJ to the bench where he belongs.

As is, the lineup can at least bit more productive.

mets2014
mets2014

@Andi @drmetfan rest easy andi...the mets wouldn't do that deal...Cabrera is a great fit for the mets, but they would probably only trade one centerpiece player like gee or niese and sweeten the deal with a lagares or dendekker and perhaps a low level prospect

mets2014
mets2014

@Jeff Babcock you're nuts bro...Cabrera is a rising star and won't be a free agent until 2017...lagares is not the centerpiece of the deal, he is a sweetener

Jeff Babcock
Jeff Babcock

Throw in Neise. Lagares' defense is too valuable. San Diego is rebuilding too. If we could throw them 3 or 4 decent players, they'd be all over it.

mets2014
mets2014

@Lee Lewin @mets2014@Jeff Babcock that's exactly why you would have to include him in the deal...ey would do little to motivate san diego from moving an up and coming star...as far as the mets go, lagares is a piece that can be replaced internally by dendekker

@Father Dooley if Jesus has been cheering for the mets the last 6 years, with those results, i'm converting to Judaism.
