Ruben Tejada will continue to get the bulk of the playing time at shortstop, while Wilmer Flores may get start at second base the next time the Mets face a left-handed starting pitcher (Rubin, May 17).

Mets rookie starting pitchers Rafeal Montero and Jacob deGrom will each start next week, as opposed to skipping someone with Monday’s off day, Terry Collins told reporters on Friday.

Kyle Farnsworth inked a major-league deal with the Astros, then blew a three-run lead in his debut.

Well Mr Fartsworth is it our fault that you suck no matter what uniform you wear. ?

Collins is an idiot and Alderson is even a worse one for allowing this madness!!!  Murphy is your best hitter, why would you sit him under any circumstance except for a rest/day off?? Tejada is just plain awful, if anyone thinks a .190/.200 hitter is acceptable is out of their minds! Time to make a trade and upgrade at shortstop now if they dont think Flores is good enough?? Collins needs too take his head out of his a$$ and learn what appointing some one as "the starter" means, what he has done with Lagares is a G'Damn shame!! And to the Wilpons, have your GM and manager run this team like a professional team or fire them or better still sell the team!!!

So your going to take your best guy, Murphy, out the lineup and leave the infielder with the worst batting AVG....are we going to sit Lagares too?? #ByeCollins

WALLY's Las Vegas 51's keep on rolling... As his team keeps losing its best talent to the big club, they've won 6 in a row, 11 outta 12, to improve to 31-11; a win% of .738

Next best win % in the entire league - .558

Flores on 2B? TC is going nuts. What was wrong with Murph on second.

Also not getting any production out of catcher position.

Farnsworth is a joke. Either his ego is too big or he thinks it's ten years ago when he was a very good pitcher.

So JL plays... scores runs, bats runs in and saves runs with his glove? Tell me again why he isnt out there everyday? So we can have the 2 out hit Chris Young or Crappy Granderson swing at the pitch that bounces off the dirt....??? So he beat up a water cooler.... at least he cares, which there are few guys on this team mailing it in... waiting for the game to be over so they can go eat a good meal with Keith H.

Can Campbell play short?? even if he makes routine plays??? Even if he hits .280.....???

Uncle Saul has the right idea, again, via Josh Kosman:

New York Mets co-owner Saul Katz may have wanted to do more than sell his stake in the struggling team.

Word around Major League Baseball is that Katz recently tried unsuccessfully to persuade brother-in-law and fellow owner Fred Wilpon that they should sell majority control, a baseball executive said.

Wilpon, 74, balked at the move largely because he wants to turn over the not-so-Amazin’s to his son, COO Jeff Wilpon

In his appearance at Yankee Stadium Ike Davis was batting .258, .374 OBP, .393 SLG. Looks like he's settling in.

There is only one legitimate infielder starting for the Mets - Wright - and he is clearly declining in the field and at the plate.

We all love Murphy, but who can say he is a plus in the field?  Hitting over 300, and with power, is more than enough to keep him in this lineup, but as a second baseman he is not the real deal.

Duda reminds me of Marv Throneberry without the HRs.  Marv would turn routine defensive plays into news reel clips.  Duda seems always to be reminding himself of what he should be doing.  Nothing natural there.

Tejada has shown that he has an innate ability both with the bat and glove.  I think he could become a legit SS - 280 hitter, good hand, good range to his left, fair to his right.  Something is going on in his head.  Perhaps ADHD.

Maybe Flores is more adept at making the turn at second than Murphy, but I still wish they would give him a shot at first.

We still need a legit MLB SS for this team. Obviously it would help if that guy could lead off but I'm not sure who that is if he's even out there.

How can you blow a 3 run lead when you give up 2 runs, get a hold, and your team gets the win without trailing the whole game?

So, who are the rest of today's pitchers for the Mets?  We all know Wheeler can't make it through 5.

I missed Lagares' robing ceremony during the game.

Murphy is starting. Right again, weren't you??

Maybe they want to give him a day off? Shocking, I know, but it does happen.

@90wins "Break against a tough lefty" - Murph can hit just fine and plays everyday.  Flores should be playing SS.  This Tejada nonsense needs to stop TC, he is playing so poorly now its really sad.  Why on earth is Flores wasting time on the bench?  If you 're not going to start him everyday at SS, send him back to vegas.

Please Saul, convince him! The fans would love for the team not to be the joke of the league, thanks.

@skillsets  Exactly what I've been saying, this all about Fred wanting to give this to Jeffrey so he doesn't have to get a real job!

Tarheel11

@Mark Phelan  I agree about Murphy but Tejada is horrible.

We have the worst middle infield defense in baseball. Can live with Murphy because of his bat but Tejada isn't a starter on any other team in baseball

@Tarheel11  Need to let Lagares lead off for a while.  Has a better BA & OBP than EYJr and K rate is about equal.  He only lags in BBs.

@seltzerm  Inherited runner scored plus 2 earned of his own? Ties the game but doesn't give up the lead.  Hold.  Regardless, it's gonna be tough for Farnsy to have his Rickey Vaughn moment vs. the Mets if he gets cut from yet another ML team...

@tullers  Wheeler is experiencing a sophomore slump.  Time for him to take some deep breaths and get back to the basics which got him here.

We need a SS, a 1B, and an editor.

Every player goes through the same thing. I rather see the young player go out there and work through it then see the rest of those smoes get playing time over him.

@Steven Matregrano @John Bastolla  Maybe the rest of the team should have mechanical issues and anger issues. Lagares was hitting .286 upon returning from the DL and he was then benched. #freestevefromthisblog

Tarheel11

@tullers @Tarheel11  From what I heard Lagares had been sitting because he beat up a water cooler so I guess they wanted to teach him a lesson/work on his hitting approach whatever. And to a degree I kind of get that. I don't agree with sitting him as long as they did but whatever. What I completely don't get is why the love affair with Tejada? The guy is horrible yet they keep throwing him out there. Why even have Flores up here? He's too young to just sit and rot.

seltzerm
seltzerm

Sorry, they never tied the game either...either way, happy to be done with him. I just wish that he didn't have to wait till the last series of the year to get his wish to face us

As see Lagares as a #5 hitter, moving up to #3 in the order in a few years.

Tarheel11
Tarheel11

@Steven Matregrano @tullers @Tarheel11  I tend to agree with Steven here. I don't see Lagares as a lead off guy. I think he projects to be a 6th type hitter down the line driving in runs. The problem is this team has no lead off hitter other than EY so when he sits they have an issue

metstastic

Bad timing. Flores had the stomach virus which coincides with Tejada's mini hot streak which of course leads to TC wanting to ride that streak out. The streak is over. Tejada stinks and he's still out there!

@seltzerm  Enh, it was worth a shot.  I don't think there is any way Farnsworth makes it to the end of the season with Houston.  Even Houston can't live with that type of inconsistency
