Howie Rose and Josh Lewin return to Mets radio booth

The Mets announced Thursday that Howie Rose and Josh Lewin will return to broadcast Mets games this season on 710 WOR AM radio.

It was reported earlier this week that MLB Network Radio’s Casey Stern is expected to be the new pre- and and post-game host, according to multiple sources (Capital New York, Fed. 11), with Eddie Coleman believed to be staying on as WFAN’s team beat reporter.

The Mets had also been considering an ex-player in the booth as well, according to people familiar with the process (Capital New York, Jan. 27). WOR had been planning to speak with Cliff Floyd and Darryl Hamilton (Puma, Jan. 20).

This is good news. I love these guys in the radio booth. I understand that most people do not listen to the radio broadcast. I didn’t for a long time. However, last year I did, mostly because of having a toddler and a newborn, which forced me to listen with one earbud in while doing something else. Rose and Lewin were great. The TV guys do a great job educating and explaining the game. However, the radio team of Lewin and Rose capture the essence of watching the game with Mets fans, because they are passionate and knowledgeable Mets fans… as is Stern.

I'm from Mexico and been a fan since 2008, I sometimes listen to met's games with the mlb at bat app and I think these guys are the ish. They explain the game so well that when I see the plays on the higlights is almost as I had pictured them.

I'm fine with this...it could always be worse:

Rahjah Clem-enz is in Jawg'ez box...and Rahjah Clem-enz is coming back...oh my good-goodness gracious...of all the dramatic thing....................of all the dramatic things i've eva seen, Rahjah Clem-enz standing right in George Steinbrenner's box...announcing he's coming back...Rah-jah Clemenz is a New York Yankee.

I'm glad to hear that I'll be hearing them again. I tend to listen more than watch due to my schedule (thank you SiriusXM!)

The one area that this organization has been great at consistently is the announcer team.  it makes being a fan of this team tolerable. Mets announcers >>>>>>>>>>> Yankees announcers.

I listen to the radio a lot, and Rose is indispensable.   Didn't like Lewin for a while, but tolerate him now.

Howie Rose a mets lifer, Lewin a mets sycophant with fake bluster, overblown and ludicrous connections/allusions

I fail to understand what this post has to do with Stephen Drew

Lewin could try a little less sucking up to Rose; = addition by subtraction.

I'd love to see Piazza announce.

The Mets have always had great broadcast teams.  You can't go wrong with Gary Cohen, Keith Hernandez, and Ron Darling (and the occasional Jerry Seinfeld) on television and Howie and Josh on the radio.

Maybe this is being picky and it has been covered as I haven't been on the site daily lately, but the last thing I want to see when checking Metsblog is the banner Yankees prominently displayed right between Mets and Mets Minors. What's up with that?

Howie is terrific, but Lewin doesn't do much for me.  To me he kind of comes off like a know-it-all type.

I agree with most that Howie is a classic. However, every time I hear lewin all I can think of is the Simpsons. And it makes me cringe. Not because I didn't love the simpsons....

Lewin is fine. I appreciate Howie but i don't enjoy listening to hi as the main man. The TV guys are so far superior i rarely choose radio, though i enjoy listening to radio. I hope the Mets find that 3rd man to add to Rose and Rubin, they need it.

I often listen in to the radio broadcasts when I'm listening late at night (I'm in the UK). Howie and Josh are both fantastic broadcasters and it's fantastic news that they are returning for 2014

Like the chemistry between the two. Critical for the long season in the booth when considering team broadcasters.

That said, Josh can improve. He rarely updates us with the situation (even the plain old score) and makes a lot of mistakes on the nuts and bolts when he recaps his innings.

I can see where a third guy on a part time basis would be an asset.

I'm a bit sad that the Suzyn Waldman rumor was, well, just a rumor.. I would have loved to hear her in the booth with Howie.

I'm a bit surprised so many people have praised Josh Lewin. He's okay. Hard to be excited by the guy. His voice sounds a bit phony. They need an "Ed Coleman" replacement. The former player option sounds logical.  They probably will announce that eventually.

I like Howie, always have and always will.

I am happy they are both back. I will say it again that losing WFAN still hurts. Having to listen to Yankees ads combined with Waldman is almost too much to bear.

Lets not forget that our wonderful owner jeffey was the only reason that this all took so long...and that the team has its AAA affiliate in vegas, instead of Norfolk of BUffalo, and on and on..

I'm guessing that Lewin was cheaper than using an ex-player :)

Ah - This is good news. Josh does a great job and Howie is great too. Heard Josh calling Chargers games this year - he's just as good with football.

And both of them are Seinfeld connoisseurs which is an added plus.

I can't get over the Mets being on the same station as Limbaugh and Hannity.

can any of them play first base, SS or lead off?

@Orlando Fernandez  Yeah, they started the new layout like this, everyone complained, and then they changed it... and now it's back? Wtf?

Are you kidding? A yankee fan with a shrill boston accent...makes me appreciate Howie and Josh. Wish Ed Coleman was in the mix.

Reason why Yankees on WFAN instead of Mets is that they are a better product year in year out with consistent pennant race intrigue

@Victor Triguero They are both definitely the best and its not even close. That's one thing the mets don't taka a back seat to anybody in.

@TheTrueStork Like Howie a lot... Met Icon... But seriously ..can't take Lewin's play by play. He is way to robotic and does anyone not hear the pronounced lisp ?? Was hoping for a player personally along with Howie.

@rico

the box has got to be kidding.  That can't possibly be a serious comment.
