The Rockland Boulders sent out an e-mail today announcing the signing of Howard Johnson, and his son, Glen Johnson, to their 2011 Can-Am League roster.
“This may be my last go ‘round so it’s a great opportunity to play in a professional game with my son,” Johnson said, according to the team’s website. “How many fathers can do that?”
The first time I saw this I thought, ‘How sad?’ Then, the more I thought about it, the more I realize there are far worse ways to get paid, plus how many people ever get the chance to play baseball like this with their son – even if it’s in the Can-Am League. So, yes, this is kind of goofy, but, you know what, you only live once, and I hope HoJo and his son have a terrific time on field together.
