Hot Stove Update: Toronto could deal big bats for starting pitching

People around the game feel there is a good chance the Blue Jays will trade either 1B Edwin Encarnacion or OF Jose Bautista for starting pitching (Harper, Nov. 10).

If Matt Harvey was a piece for 2014, I’d believe the Mets would have the groundwork for a deal with Toronto. They both have pieces which fit each other’s needs. But, it doesn’t sound like the Mets are eager to deal their front line starting pitching right now. After all, they are now looking for at least one stable veteran for the rotation right now – dealing from a thin source to fill another need won’t help them next season.

If he declines the Red Sox qualifying offer, the team will not wait around for 1B Mike Napoli (Passan, Nov. 9).

If Napoli departs Boston, the Red Sox could pursue a trade for Mark Trumbo (Cafardo, Nov. 10).

The Nationals seem open to dealing OF Denard Span (Heyman, Nov. 9).

The Yankees are the only team to make an offer to 2B Robinson Cano so far this winter (Martin, Nov. 10).

The Rangers trading 2B Ian Kinsler and/or SS Elvis Andrus seems inevitable, at some point (Rosenthal, Nov. 10).
