Hot Stove Roundup: Tigers interested in Scott Hairston

2013 MILB Winter MeetingsHere’s the latest relevant news and rumors from the early parts of the Winter Meetings in Nashville:

  • The Tigers are interested in signing OF Scott Hairston as a platoon player (FOX Sports). 
  • Nationals and Rays are discussing a deal which would send INF Danny Espinosa and OF Michael Morse to the Rays (FOX Sports), and could be interested in one of the Rays starting pitchers (ESPN).
  • The Rays did sign 1B James Loney, signaling the end of Carlos Pena’s second stint with Tampa Bay (Yahoo! Sports).
  • The Mariners are in the market for offense, and are considering signing OF Josh Hamilton or acquiring OF Justin Upton (CBS Sports).
  • The Rangers are also pursuing both Zack Greinke and a trade for James Shields, but are also in active discussions for D-Backs OF Justin Upton, although Arizona continues to want a shortstop in return (FOX Sports).
  • The Padres are close to signing RHP Jason Marquis (ESPN).
  • The Giants remain interested in OF Shane Victorino, but only as a fallback option to Angel Pagan (SF Chronicle).
  • OF Delmon Young is recovering from ankle surgery, and so he could wait to sign a new deal until January (FOX Sports).
  • The Twins are expected to “kick the tires” on signing LHP John Lannan (ESPN).
  • The Orioles are interested in retaining OF Nate McLouth (Baltimore Sun).
  • Twins GM Terry Ryan said on Sirius/XM Radio C Joe Mauer is not getting traded this winter.
