As expected, the Mets did not extend a qualifying offer (one year, $14.1 million) to any of their available free agents (Frank Francisco, Daisuke Matsuzaka, David Aardsma, Pedro Feliciano, Tim Byrdak, Aaron Harang and LaTroy Hawkins).
The Mets have already contacted Hawkins about returning in 2014 (Ackert, Sept. 30).

I’ve heard Hawkins is very much open to re-signing with the Mets. He was a low-risk, high-reward signing last winter, and he was a great value all season long. He dealt with a triceps strain in the second half and some fatigue over the final week of the season, but was able to pitch through both issues and finish the year strong. He played an important leadership role for the rest of the bullpen, as well, and proved to be a very positive and outgoing personality for the entire clubhouse.
