Matt Harvey sits in the dugout 1

Harvey expected to throw from mound next Monday

The Mets plan to have Matt Harvey throw off a mound next Monday, June 9, at Tradition Field in Port St. Lucie (ESPN, June 2).

It will be the first time he’s thrown off a mound since undergoing Tommy John surgery last October.

Harvey recently told SI.com that he wants to make five to seven starts for the Mets this season. However, Sandy Alderson has yet to publicly acknowledge if this is a realistic or attainable goal.

Matt, Please take it slow. You have nothing to prove this year. We want you healthy for 2015.

is he going to be back for Game 3 of Stanley Cup Finals at MSG?

Why did he put the surgery off until December then? If he had it back in late August early September I wouldn't be as much of a stretch. It seems like Matt wanted to have his cake and now eat it too.

I'm a Met fan. Harvey is one of the most unpleasant, unlikable Mets, ever! And an a*s for trying to recover too quickly. Time heals everything.

What he wants to do and how many Starts ( if any ) he gets this season is not his decision .  Me....I would give him 1 start so he and the MEts , can go into the off season , knowing that he'll be coming back in 15. Take it slow guys please.

I'm happy the Mets have Harvey.  I think he is a MAJOR part of the future of this team.  I'm tired of the Matt Harvey Watch 2014, I don't think he needs to rush to get back, and I would like him to just go rehab.  He's a "gamer" and we love that about him, but we have plans for him that extend well beyond September, 2014.  I think he's lost sight of that a little

I still want him to take it easy. Don't be foolish and try to come back for September. Not worth it. This team is going nowhere this year. That's why we are trying out all the young kids. Getting ready for next year. If Harvey comes back strong we will have the best starting pitching staff in baseball

I Don't See him Making 5 Starts but Maybe 2 OR 3 But Only If he Is 100% ready...I Think It Would Actually be good for him to make a start or two this year but again he has to be ready...health obviously comes first

We may be hovering around .500 but we are in a weak division so we still actually, yes have a chance to clinch the NL East. :)

And by the way to all of you extremely negative Met fans or should I say so-called Mets fans although it's early June this team is actually in contention despite their sub 500 record so get a grip watched a young kids develop and for crying out loud be a true Met fan show some enthusiasm

we're in the midst of a run. we'll be over .500 once the cubs series is over. one more bat and this team can contend, the pitching is there and harvey would only make us that much better

@Chris Kujawa He was trying to decide whether to rehab it, or go for the surgery. Initially, he was going to just try rehab, but then decided on surgery.
