Jeremy Hefner 2 (Baron)

Harvey and Hefner to throw off mound, still eyeing 2014 returns

Matt Harvey will throw off a mound Monday and Jeremy Hefner will do the same on Tuesday (NY Post, June 5).

Hefner underwent Tommy John surgery on Aug. 28, 2013, roughly two months before Harvey’s procedure.

Hefner and Harvey have both told reporters they would like to pitch for the Mets this season.

“That’s my goal,” Hefner said last month (ESPN, May 7). “That’s my hope. Hopefully I can come and contribute if there’s a need. I think I’d be wasting my time if I wasn’t trying to get back to the big leagues.”

Harvey recently told SI.com that he wants to make five to seven starts for the Mets this season.

Sandy Alderson has yet to publicly acknowledge if this is a realistic or attainable goal for either pitcher.

Matt Harvey himself is the one who wants to come back this year

No it's crazy you don't risk his career or future to pitch this season so yes it's crazy

Kevin call me crazy but not a bad idea if there in the playoff race weather division or wildcard he could be a closer not that many pitched and if his velocity is up there could save games for them down the stretch

Hopefully Harvey and Hefner only throw a few innings. Don't go looking for a no hitter. Lol

Love to see Harvey pitch this year. I would go to the game if on a Sat or Sun.

Pitching is far less of a problem than the awful situational hitting on this team.

You won't get a box of used baseballs for Hefner a mediocre pitcher off surgery. Need to trade either Gee Neise Montero for a bat. If the mets let Harvey pitch this year they should all be fired

I can see Harvey being a total flop, because his bad attitude and the Mets seemingly trying to rush him.

terry Collins better not return in 2015.

Trade Hefner for a hitter if we can for sure

Unless they can come in and hit for power they're really not needed. Pitching has been more than good enough. Let's not risk and injury. Adding these two healthy arms to the pool gives Sandy (or his replacement) the flexibility to make a trade for a hitter who wears his big boy pants to the park.

well posters are ripping the mets even though they are only 3 games under .500 with an 80- million dollar payroll.  how about the Dodgers?   one game over and a 220 million dollar payroll.

Yanks?  .500 with a 190 million dollar PAYROLL.

METS ARE DISAPPOINTING?  Mets are doing better that i thought they would and the future is bright.    Gee is out so Dice K is in.  he should not be,  the bullpen has finally straightened out and we have Harvey and Noah to add to the rotation next year.  Maybe Kevin P as our catcher and Chris young will be gone next year and hopefully his money can be used to get a hitter for left.

Legares is the real deal and Granderson is coming around.  Wright is being killed here but he leads the NL in hits.  imagine if he had more help.

we draft an important piece today and we get a prospect from Pittsburg.  2014 was never going to be  the year we contend with harvey recovering/   however Wheeler is looking good.  Niese is pitching great and Degrom has been a revelation.  Gee was on a roll before getting hurt.

This team is getting closer.  I choose to be optimistic about the team despite having the worst owner in baseball.

Main duty these days seems to be him or his wife posting cute photos on Twitter and such.

I don't blame him for wanting to be back.  I just want him to take it easy so that he comes back in ST next year 100% ready to go.

He played well last year and if he can start could be a perfectly fine back-end starter on various teams. Look at what the Yanks are putting out there these days. This is a "value" and can be part of deals.

I disagree. The only two teams that are out of it as of now are the Cubs and Houston. We aren't even at the half-way point yet. Im not saying we will make the playoff but this team has a marginal shot. whether they do or dont, I do agree with you that progress on prospects is what im excited about.
